Bacteria found in adhesive cream
Bacteria found in the adhesive cream of blend-a-dent. Procter & Gamble recalls products.
(28.08.2010) Bacteria were found in gluten-blocking cream from blend-a-dent. For this reason, the affected products are recalled by the manufacturer. In some denture adhesives the bacterium "B. cepacia" was found. The bacteria may cause severe illnesses.
An infection with "Burkholderia cepacia" can lead to a decrease in lung function and even to death in weakened patients. The bacteria are also considered the trigger of chronic lung diseases. "Burkholderia cepacia" is naturally resistant to many normal antibiotics, so patients hospitalized are also isolated. For healthy people there is no great risk of illness. However, for consumers who have a weakened immune system, infection can potentially cause serious health consequences.
According to the Hessian Ministry of Health, the "blend-a-dent Super-Haftcreme extra strong - Variant fresh" with the batch number 0209 are contaminated. As the Procter & Gamble company announced on Thursday, all adhesive creams with the batch number are recalled from the trade. If already purchased adhesive creams were purchased, they should be disposed of. Affected detention creams are currently being withdrawn from the market. So far it is not known if people have already become infected.
As the company Procter & Gamble announced, the bacteria were found in the course of a regular quality control in the factory. As the entrepreneur further announced, all important steps had been taken thereupon. Current research shows that only one production process is affected. Other batch numbers do not pose a risk of infection.
But how can you tell if you have bought a sticky cream that may be contaminated. The lot number of the product is located on the right side of the carton and on the fold at the end of the tube. The adhesive cream should not be used and disposed of in the trash. Under the service numbers 0800-070-014 or 01-58857-257, a replacement can be requested free of charge from the manufacturer. (Sb)
