The causes of dark circles can be very different. This explained Prof. Ingrid Moll, Director of the Department of Dermatology at UKE opposite the "Hamburger Abendblatt".

Above all, the skin around the eyes is very thin-skinned and sensitive, so that sometimes disturbances show up there first. Moll explained that the causes of rings under the eyes are very different. According to the dermatologist, the most important ones are lack of sleep, dry heating air, cigarette smoke or dehydration. Then the skin may become temporarily dry and the skin tissue is irritated. The pigments of the skin are activated as a result. "It may also happen that the fine blood vessels around the eyes receive too little oxygen as a result of these influences," says Prof Moll. As a result, the eyes appear much darker. However, many people also tend to dark circles more quickly than others through a genetic predisposition.

However, dark circles are not a cause for concern, only in rare cases there is a serious background disease. By the way, the eyesight is not affected by dark circles.
