"Eat milk and dairy products like yogurt and cheese every day," writes the German Society for Nutrition (DGE) in its ten rules for a healthy diet. Elsewhere, the experts point out that milk contains valuable nutrients for the human body, such as high-quality proteins, B vitamins, calcium and various trace elements. But not all professionals are convinced of the health benefits. Prof. Dr. Bodo Melnik from the University of Osnabrück is one of the strongest critics of milk consumption. Healthy or unhealthy?

In the past, milk was the epitome of healthy nutrition. But now there is a dispute over whether milk is healthy or harmful.

Milk is said to strengthen bones and teeth, among other things, because of the calcium it contains. In addition, researchers in the journal "Circulation" reported that high-fat milk can reduce the risk of diabetes.

And Canadian scientists published a study in the journal "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition," which showed that whole milk for children is significantly healthier than low-fat milk.

Mainly because children who drink whole milk are leaner and have higher vitamin D levels than those who drink low-fat or skimmed milk.

Negative effects of milk consumption

On the other hand, there are also studies, according to which milk consumption may also favor diseases such as asthma.

In addition, scientific studies provided evidence that milk drinkers are more prone to osteoporosis or indigestion.

However, according to current research, these health risks are usually not proven. The white matter is therefore neither clearly dangerous nor harmless.

Nevertheless, there are good reasons to refrain from consuming milk, says Prof. Dr. med. Bodo Melnik from the University of Osnabrück.

Man does not stop drinking milk

"Milk is not a product," said the human physician to the portal "Vegan World".

"Milk is a highly complex signaling agent for neonatal care. Their signal is growth, "said the expert, who pointed out that milk can also be understood as" a kind of doping ".

Newborn mammals get milk to grow, but eventually they stop drinking it - man does not.

Instead, the growth stimulant is consumed in excess. "And yes, with regard to cancer, growth is a negative stimulus," said Prof. Dr. med. Melnik.

According to the expert, this also explains that dairy products increase the risk of prostate cancer. Vegan life, on the other hand, can significantly reduce this risk.

Manipulate human genetics

The physician also pointed out that so-called microRNA is also present in milk, ie genetic particles with a gene-regulatory effect; many of them are bioactive across the species line.

According to the expert, we could manipulate our own genetics through the high consumption of cow's milk products.
