07/11/2011

Ambrosia allergy often leads to many cross-allergies, as the German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI) announced. Allergies could also be against spices such as parsley, pepper or celery.

Ambrosia is the world's most allergenic plant worldwide. The pollen of the plant is distributed mainly in the middle / end of July and in the course of August. Allergy sufferers suffer from massive complaints such as runny nose, shortness of breath, cough, asthma, eye swelling and headache. The symptoms can reach into the early winter. The German Society for Allergology and Clinical Immunology (DGAKI) warns in this context allergy sufferers from so-called cross-allergies. Those affected could also be allergic to celery, parsley, chives, pepper and many other herbs, as Prof. Karl-Christian Bergmann of the DGAKI announced.

The ambrosia plant is also used in professional and garden circles „mugwort“ called. Many patients are allergic to mugwort as a spice species. Some suffer from mild discomfort such as tingling in the mouth, others complain sometimes severe allergic reactions that need to be treated clinically. The mugwort ambrosia is a bushy and stocky plant, the leaves are pinnate to triple-pinnate and the stems are hairy upstanding. The hairy stems are usually a little reddish, the male inflorescences are arranged in upright, finger-shaped grapes.

Even healthy people can affect an allergic thrust. During the pollen period, the ambrosia causes an allergy to every fourth hay fever patient. Those who notice hay fever symptoms should undergo an allergy test. Among other things, immunotherapy (hyposensitization) is proposed in conventional medicine. In natural medicine, in addition to homeopathy, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, the vital substance therapy, self-blood therapy, hypnosis, Bach flower treatment and intestinal rehabilitation are used. Depending on the type of allergic and patient background, a therapy is chosen. (Sb)
