AGES: Listeria in „La Dolce Crema - Spoongorgonzola“

For the product „La Dolce Crema - Spoongorgonzola“ of the Italian manufacturer Casarrigoni s.r.l, the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) recently issued a warning about consumption. In spoon gorgonzola, from the German company „Heiderbeck finest cheese“ Listeria has been detected. Affected batches have been delivered to Vorarlberg in Austria, among others.

Listeria can cause flu-like symptoms
On Thursday, the AGES announced that in „La Dolce Crema - Spoongorgonzola“ Italian manufacturer Casarrigoni s.r.l listeria. Therefore, be warned explicitly before eating. The product was classified as harmful and a return action of the company „Heiderbeck finest cheese“ causes. Affected is the spoon gorgonzola with best before date 07.06., 15.06., 21.06. and 28.06. Customers who have already bought the product should not consume this but dispose of it or complain in the supermarket.

The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes can cause the disease listeriosis. The symptoms are flu-like. After the incubation period, it usually comes to sufferers to fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain and nausea and vomiting. Normally, the infectious disease is harmless. However, older people, pregnant women, infants and people with a generally weakened immune system are at risk. Listeria may cause fetal death or premature birth during pregnancy. In people with a weakened defense system, the infection can spread to several organs in the body and trigger severe inflammation of the meninges.

EHEC germs discovered in onion sausage
Another recall in Austria concerns the „Hütthaler Gourmet onion spread sausage 200 g“. According to the Hütthaler KG, the product was self-examined for suspected EHEC germs. This concerns batch L6192 with the best before date (MDH) 13.07.2012. EHEC germs can cause diarrhea, says the company (EHEC symptoms). „It was found that a small portion of this batch was not sufficiently heated and preserved by a human error. Despite the clear assignment of the defect to the above batch, while retaining the responsibility for the consumer, the recall to all batches and shelf life data up to and including MHD 24.7.2012 of the article Hütthaler Gourmet Onion Pastry 200 g, which was temporarily available in stores of Hofer KG, has been extended“, explained the Hütthaler KG.
