Danger of dependency: Beware of sleeping pills
12/10/2014
Sleep problems can not only be annoying, but also harmful to your health. If sufferers then resort to sleeping pills, they should be careful. Such medicines can make you dependent. Many people can help natural sleep aids.
Sleeping pills can make dependent
Sleep problems are not only annoying, but can also lead to chronic fatigue, difficulty concentrating, loss of performance, an increased risk of accidents and depression. Many sufferers quickly resort to sleeping pills or sedatives, but these can not only lead to side effects such as headaches or nausea, but also make dependent. The danger is that this process is insidious. The German Center for Addiction Issues (DHS) explains in a message from the news agency dpa, how to properly handle the drugs.
Only in consultation with a doctor
If sleep and sedatives are taken longer, a dependency threatens. Therefore, it is important to take the funds only in consultation with a doctor. This is pointed out by the German Department for Addiction Issues (DHS) in the agency report. Consumers should always take only the smallest possible dose and only use the medication for a short time. Furthermore, at the end of this time, it is important not to suddenly stop the remedy, but to slowly reduce the dose.
Withdrawal symptoms during weaning attempts
As explained by the DHS, sufferers notice at first almost nothing of their addiction, as they often manage with one tablet a day and do not need to increase the dose. However, it may happen during withdrawal attempts that withdrawal symptoms occur in the form of the original complaints, but then can be stronger. So those affected take the remainder. But the permanent intake threatens that they dull and feel cut off. It basically applies that sleeping pills and tranquilizers can only help acutely, but do not fight the cause of the problems.
Change life consciously
The respective cause can only be tackled by those affected consciously changing their lives. For example, according to experts, stress relief techniques such as autogenic training, meditation, yoga, or progressive muscle relaxation may be used. Some people put in sleep disorders also on valerian drops as a natural sleep aid. Not to be recommended is alcohol, which unfortunately too many fall back on. In some cases, sufferers can also help with psychotherapy. (Ad)
