The arms form the so-called upper extremities of man. They extend from the shoulder to the fingertips. The arms are divided into three different sections: upper arm, forearm and hand. Between the upper arm and forearm is the elbow joint, which contributes to the enormous mobility of the arms. Essential for this is also the special nature of the shoulder joint, which allows movements in almost all directions. Wrist, wrist joints and finger joints are especially important for fine motor skills in grasping and other activities with the hands or fingers. The movement of the arms while walking helps to keep the balance.
The arms are almost constantly in use in everyday life, where the muscles and joints are sometimes exposed to considerable stress. In particular, repeated incorrect loading, such as those caused by unfavorable postures when working on the computer, this is increasingly causing discomfort in the arms. Excessive stress on individual muscle groups results in their hardening and tense muscles result in increased pressure on surrounding connective tissue structures, nerves and blood vessels. If, for example, a nerve is pinched, this can lead to pain or discomfort such as numbness or falling asleep. Compression of the blood vessels results in circulatory disorders, which can also be associated with pain, numbness or tingling. In the long term, incorrect loading in the arm area may also result in damage to the bone substance or to the joints, which is accompanied by an art rose and corresponding impairments of the affected joint.
In particular, forearm pains are often seen as a result of bad stress, with some occupations (for example, bakers, hairdressers) but also certain sports (for example, golf, tennis) are subject to an increased risk here. The symptoms are known as tennis elbow, tendonitis, golfer elbow, mouse arm or carpal tunnel syndrome. In addition to the pain in the forearm, there are sometimes also elbow pain. Upper arm pain can also be caused by bad stress, but here is also a heart attack as a possible cause to consider, especially if accompanying symptoms such as strong heart pain or chest pain, dyspnoea, abdominal pain in the upper abdomen, nausea and vomiting are recorded.
