Single parents are exposed to special burdens that can also cause health problems. The majority of single parents are women, but even single males are no longer uncommon today. According to the Federal Statistical Office, a total of 2.7 million lone parents lived in Germany in 2016 (408,000 men and 2.3 million women). About one in four children is raised in a household with only one parent.
