How to work wraps

These old home remedies strengthen the body's defenses, reduce inflammation and thus also pain. They are, depending on the application, cooling or warming, promote blood circulation, serve for purification, dissolve cramps and show according to the active ingredients used many other positive effects. Still, wraps are not magic. For more serious illnesses and / or if there is no improvement, it is absolutely necessary to go to the doctor or alternative practitioner.

The treatment with wrapping is a so-called stimulus therapy. Depending on the temperature and size of the coil, this means a weak or even strong stimulus to the body, to which the latter then reacts. An example of this is the well-known calf wrap, in which heat is extracted from the body with a cool wrap. The principle "less is more!" Applies here - as so often - too. This means that the stimuli should be gentle so that the body neither cools down nor overheats. The younger the patient is, the lower the stimulus and the duration of treatment should be. The times of use mentioned here usually refer to adolescents and adults.

What is important in the application

This home remedy needs some preparation. The following should be noted: A wrap is not carried out between the door and the fishing rod but requires a quiet atmosphere. In the meantime, in order to be able to really rest, it is advisable to go to the toilet first. Immediately after eating, but also with a growling, empty stomach, a wrap application is not recommended. Cold wraps should never be used on cold skin. Cold feet are warmed up beforehand - preferably by a foot bath. It is important to note any allergies if the wrap contains additives such as herbs or essential oils. Coffee, black tea, alcohol and nicotine should be avoided before treatment.

Warm, hot or cold?

Adults and teenagers are asked what temperature they feel. If someone rejects cold or notices that it is not doing well, never use a cold wrap. For babies and toddlers warm compresses are generally used, as cold or hot would put too strong a stimulus.

Important to the winding application is as relaxed as possible a physical condition and then rest is absolutely necessary. In advance, the body can be prepared by a sea salt bath and aroma oil on the wrap. (Image: PhotoSG / fotolia.com)

Warm wrap

Warm wraps are used when cold is not indicated but hot as well as unsuitable. A warm wrap, for example, is the drug of choice for sinusitis, pelvic or cystitis, and neuralgia.

Hot wraps

Hot wraps warm through, they are only suitable for teenagers and adults and should not be used in infants. They help especially with tension in the back and abscesses or boils.

Cold wraps

Cold wraps remove heat from the body. They are therefore often used in conjunction with fever, arthritis, swelling and pain.

"Ingredients" for wraps

The following is required for a wrap: An inner cloth made of cotton or linen, an intermediate cloth, also made of cotton or linen, an outer cloth, possibly made of wool. For the inner and intermediate cloth simply baby diapers can be used. An outer scarf is also suitable for an old scarf or a pillowcase which is fixed with the belt of a bathrobe. If this is too complicated for you, get a ready-made changing kit.

The size of the inner fabric depends on the area to be treated. The inner cloth is always the cloth, which is soaked with the appropriate liquid or on which the additives to be used are brought. This is covered with a shawl. The outer layer forms the outer fabric, which is often made of wool or silk. Some applications still need some raw wool or cotton wool.
