symptoms
The itching is usually in the area of the outer vagina, ie in the vaginal entrance and the labia. In addition to the itching, burning sensation, pain and discomfort may occur during urination or during sexual intercourse. Skin lesions may include redness, spots and oozing areas, as well as swelling, blisters and nodules. This often results in increased vaginal discharge, which may be noticeable due to changes in color and smell.
Itching in vaginal inflammation
Inflammation of the vagina can be caused by viruses, fungi, bacteria and protozoa. Standing next to the itching pain in the foreground and form visible small blisters, infection with Herpes viruses present (genital herpes).
A fungal infection, usually by the yeast fungus Candida albicans caused is accompanied by itching, burning and increased discharge, the z.T. sour or yeasty smell. Also itching, burning and discharge (Flour), often with the involvement of the urinary organs (bladder infection, ureteritis) are associated with infections trichomoniasis or chlamydia, which are commonly transmitted during sexual intercourse.
Emergence due to disturbed vaginal flora
The vagina of a healthy woman is colonized by a variety of bacteria, especially lactic acid bacteria, which prevents the ingress or proliferation of unwanted germs by maintaining the naturally acidic environment. In balance, acid barrier and a regulated moisture balance remain mainly due to the effect of the body's own sex hormones. If this delicate equilibrium is disturbed, various germs will open the floodgates to spread unchecked.
A weakened immune system, such as general conditions, stress, mental or physical overload or lack of sleep forms the basis for a disturbance of the normal flora, which can be strengthened by other factors. These include periods of hormonal changes in pregnancy and menopause, the use of antibiotics, cytostatics, cortisone and contraceptives (the "pill"), underwear made of less breathable synthetic fibers and exaggerated frequent genital hygiene with perfumed soaps. Furthermore, there are some underlying diseases that weaken the immune system, such as AIDS, diabetes mellitus, allergies, eczema or diseases of the liver and kidneys. Finally, the cause may be cancer or a precancer, which is comparatively rare.
Diagnosis and treatment options
In case of unclear discomfort, which lasts longer, a specialist examination is advisable to avoid the rise of possible infections and complications. With the colposcope, the vagina is inspected, with the help of color test and smear existing germs can be identified. The conventional therapy is then medicated according to the cause, for example with antibiotics and antimycotics (antifungal drug).
Representatives of Naturopathy put their faith in a general strengthening of the immune system and building a healthy vaginal flora. In case of fungal infection this always includes an examination for intestinal fungi and a special diet. The itching of the vagina can be alleviated by turmeric or hamamelis tincture, calendula lotion or bird's milk ointment, which are to be applied externally.
The physiological pH can be restored by rinsing with a 25% vinegar solution which also counteracts the itching. Additional lactic acid bacteria, which are used in therapy or after antibiosis, are available in the form of ready-to-buy suppositories and creams in the pharmacy. Alternatively, a tampon can be made from linen cloth and coated with natural yoghurt into the vagina. To help reduce germs, a clove of garlic in the vagina, which is well attached to a string (for example with dental floss), should also help.
In order to keep the vaginal flora as stable as possible, it is essential to abstain from panty liners, perfumed soaps and chemical vaginal irrigation. Many microbes love moist, low-oxygen milieu. Preventively, therefore, underwear made of breathable, oxygen-permeable materials should be preferred so that the Scheidejucken does not even arise. (Jvs)
