Inner unrest
Internal restlessness & nervousness
Who does not know them, the inner turmoil that sometimes accompanies us after a serious quarrel, during a profound change or before an important exam? But only when the inner restlessness persists, it can lead to further mental and physical symptoms, the v.a. caused by a dysbalance of the autonomic nervous system. Women seem to be particularly susceptible to inner restlessness, and some naturopaths can read the predisposition to "weak nerves" in the eyes.

Internal restlessness as a symptom
Internal restlessness is perceived quite differently by those affected and is usually accompanied by other symptoms. So the restlessness inside is often described together with sensations of nervousness, tachycardia as well as constant hustling and being driven. Inner restlessness seems to come so close to the feeling of fear that the two states are sometimes difficult to distinguish from one another. On the mental level, inner restlessness is accompanied by concentration problems, "constantly circling thoughts" and the inability to "switch off". In the evening, restlessness and nervousness often persist as insomnia, which in turn leads to fatigue and exhaustion the next day. Physical ailments can be back pain, excessive sweating, loss of appetite, stomach ache and other digestive disorders, in men it can cause erectile problems.

An internal feeling of rest concerns people of both sexes, but most often women are affected. This is attributed, on the one hand, to hormonal changes in the menopause, which can be the cause, and on the other to the constant double burden of family and work. Constant tensions in the partnership or bullying in the workplace are also typical situations that can put a person in constant stress.
Although some disorders or dysfunctions (eg, hyperthyroidism, nicotine addiction and acute myocardial infarction) are known to cause inner restlessness, in most cases it is the combination of unfavorable external circumstances with a lack of internal coping mechanisms that our autonomic nervous system derives from Balance brings.
Disorders in the nervous system
The autonomic nervous system can be understood as an interface between the physical and psyche. Through his structures, emotional experience is made physically tangible by directing smooth muscles, heart muscle and glands in a certain direction. For this purpose, the vegetative nervous system has two oppositely functioning control mechanisms in the form of nerve conduction systems, which complement each other in their effect. While the parasympathetic nervous system is dominated by internal bodily functions such as glandular secretion, sleep mode and digestive work, the sympathetic nervous system is stimulated by external events, work and stress. Because both parts can never be excited at the same time, balanced cooperation is necessary to ensure healthy body functions.
Because the constant feeling of pressure, agitation and gaiety outweighs the excitement of the sympathetic, also the described body symptoms, due to a (sympathetically induced) increase in heart rate, the reduction of gastric and intestinal movements and secretion of digestive juices and a prevented male Erection come about.
Naturopathy: Internal unrest and constitution
In eye diagnostics, a classic field of naturopathy, it is believed that about 20% of blue-eyed people have the predisposition to a nervous weakness, which i.a. can be recognized by a very fine fiberization of the iris stroma. People with this so-called neurogenic constitution are said to be more susceptible to nervous symptoms such as inner restlessness. The tendency to overstrain is then reinforced by a coral-red ring (Asthenikerring), which surrounds the pupil and can be seen with a magnifying glass or iris microscope. Finally, even with the naked eye, the large pupil is visible, revealing a dominance of the sympathetic. People of this constitution are advised to carefully divide their powers and support, for example, with minerals according to Schüßler, with potassium phosphoricum, calcium phosphoricum and magnesium phosphoricum proven to strengthen nerves. Bach flower essences, e.g. White chestnut, cherry plum or elm can help develop mental clarity, inner peace, new courage and drive. It is also advisable to create small oases of peace and relaxation in everyday life, to meet friends, to meditate, to practice yoga or autogenic training.
For coping with family difficulties and unfavorable patterns of behavior, systemic family and couple counseling are suitable, while inner conflicts are wonderful to uncover and dissolve with self-organizational hypnosis. At the same time, ways and possibilities for a gentler handling of oneself and others can be initiated.
It is mainly osteopathy that deals with the autonomic nervous system on a manual level. The main nerve of the parasympathetic system is the vagus nerve. To activate it works in osteopathy, especially with techniques of craniosacral osteopathy on the head. Thus, according to the theories of osteopathy, there are connections between the musculature at the back of the head and this nerve. If the muscles relax, the vagus nerve and thus the parasympathetic system is activated according to the model of osteopathy and those affected return to a state of relaxation. Craniosacral osteopathy also senses a rhythm called primary respiratory rhythm (PRM). He should also harmonize the body rhythm and bring it into balance.
Structural osteopathic approaches also look for blockage of the rib or thoracic spine. Under the head of the ribs are the switches for the sympathetic nerve leads and they hope to be able to move to a regulated function by interacting with the relaxed tissue.
The same thing happens in Rolfing. The Rolfing is a deep connective tissue work, which considers not only the static and the tension patterns in the body but also the emotional level and therefore offers itself as a therapeutic approach even with a functional symptomatology with inner restlessness.
