Spine therapy after Dorn and Breuss

Spine therapy after Dorn and Breuss / Naturopathy

Spine therapy according to Dorn and Breuss consists of two different but coordinated treatment techniques, which can also be performed independently of each other. Dorn Therapy is a gentle therapy that uses light thumb pressure to treat dislocations of the vertebrae and joints while the patient's muscles are in motion. With the Breuss massage, the St. John's wort oil used for this purpose is deeply inserted into the muscles with various massage strokes, in order to be able to release blockages or tension.

History to Spine Therapy

The Dorn therapy is a form of therapy that - like all naturopathic therapies - activates the self-healing powers. A gentle, sensitive, yet powerful method, which was discovered more than thirty years ago by the Allgäu farmer and sawmill owner Dieter Dorn (1938 - 2011). He himself suffered from massive, chronic back pain. Therefore, he went to a farmer from the neighboring village, who treated him successfully by "pushing" along the spine. Dorn wanted to learn this himself, but the farmer died a few weeks later. So he remembered the handles of his therapist and tried this for the first time with his wife, who suffered from severe migraine attacks - and successfully. He began to develop the handles and used them first in the family, in the circle of acquaintances and later also in the surrounding area. Since he lacked knowledge of anatomy and physiology, the treatment process was simple and straightforward. His successes quickly spread and more and more people trusted him.

In 1985, the orthopedist invited him. med. Thomas Hansen and asked him for a treatment. Hansen supported him, provided him with medical literature and organized for him lectures and seminars to pass on this method of therapy. Dorn lectured on his methods in front of a large circle of therapists. Thus, the thorn movement had begun. Helmut Koch, Harald Feig and Dr. med. Michael Graulich, to name but a few well-known names, was involved in the further development and dissemination of the Dorn method. Until his death in 2011, Dorn trained interested in spine therapists.

The spine method

The Dorn method does not involve jerky movements or stretching. The therapy is always in motion, never at rest. These include, for example, pendulum movements of the arms and legs. The spine treatment always begins by checking the leg lengths of the patient. Different leg lengths are usually due to a pelvic depression, so the opinion of the Dorn pendant. This forms the basis of various problems in the area of the spine and it is necessary to correct it in the spinal treatment after Dorn first. The entire statics of the patient is considered and included in the treatment. If the legs are different in length, which is very common, this is eliminated with gentle, simple and painless exercises. They take place in the supine position. The actual Dorn therapy begins only when both legs are the same length. Also, joints, such as the hip joint, are gently set up.

The next stage is the pelvis and sacrum, which the therapist examines for malocclusion and - if available - corrected. The examination and treatment continue upwards towards the cervical spine. From the sacrum up to the seventh, eighth thoracic vertebrae, the patient is treated standing up and then sitting up. Some oil facilitates the sliding of the two thumbs along the spine or transverse processes of the spine. Defects are detected by the therapist, the affected people usually notice this as a mild pressure pain. The pendulum movements of the arms or legs and simultaneous pressure of the affected area, the vertebrae are brought back into the correct position. The cervical spine is a very sensitive area where you have to work with great instinct.

The grip techniques are different, as each therapist adds his individuality over time. The patient is fully involved in the treatment. He "works" all the time with self-directed exercises. These are explained to him in detail, once to the own body intensively perceive, but also in order to be able to act on home even with occurring complaints. The exercises are also designed to keep the balance established during treatment stable.

The Dorn therapy lasts about one hour and can be repeated several times as needed.

procedure

First, the therapist discusses the exact complaints of the patients in a detailed medical history. When, where and type of pain are important. Contraindications are clarified. The course of a spine treatment according to Dorn then follows as follows. After the leg joints have been "set up" to achieve a straight pelvic floor, the therapist begins with the lower spine, from the sacrum to the thoracic spine. Here, thumbs move laterally along the spine with a gentle, but sometimes strong pressure from bottom to top. You can feel any misalignments, which are then gently corrected, always supported by the pendulum of a patient's leg. From the beginning of the upper thoracic spine, the treatment continues in a sitting position. The commuting takes place here with the arm.

To deal with the blockages of the cervical spine, which also happens in a sedentary posture, a continuous back and forth turning of the head is necessary. In most cases, the therapist, after a period of treatment, lets the affected person do the movement that led to the pain before the treatment to check the effect. The symptoms may not have disappeared immediately, this may take a few days. Possibly after the treatment of the spine blocked joints, for example jaw or rib joints are processed.

At the end of the consultation, patients will receive a leaflet with the exercises to do as a "homework assignment". These are individual and are already explained and practiced during the treatment. A Breuss massage after Dorn's spine treatment completes the whole thing. The two forms of treatment together are known as spine therapy after Dorn and Breuss. However, the Breuss massage can also be carried out before the treatment with the spine, which is especially useful if the patients have a strong tense musculature and / or complain of severe pain.

Indications and contraindications

Disorders in the area of the spine belong in the treatment field of the Dorn therapy. However, these should not be acute illnesses, such as a fresh herniated disc. Indications for use include pain in the joints, low back pain, flank pain, migraine, tinnitus, and functional internal organ complaints (non-organic causes). Dizziness, a tennis elbow or even incontinence are also among the indications in which the Dorn therapy promises relief.

Dorn spinal column therapy should not be used for fresh fractures, inflammation, bed-rest, after fresh operations, tumors and metastases on bones, acute mental illness and during pregnancy. Patients who are receiving blood thinning medication and / or who have had to undergo cortisone therapy for a long time should first consult with a doctor.

Treatment of children

Both babies and smaller and older children can be treated with Dorn Therapy. However, the therapist should be very well acquainted with the anatomy and stages of development of children.

Treatment of animals

The Dorn Method can also be used in animals. Above all, dogs and horses are treated here, although this is also possible in other mammals, such as cats, sheep and cows.

The Breuss massage

The spinal column therapy according to Dorn and Breuss includes the previously described Dorn method and the previously or subsequently performed Breuss massage.

This gentle massage was developed by the Austrian Rudolf Breuss (1899 - 1990), who was an electrician as well as a naturopath and healer. He was also famous for his well-known Breuss diet, a special form of nutrition for cancer patients. He imagined the following picture for his treatment. If a weight is put on a dry sponge for a certain period of time, it will become very thin. If you remove the load and put the sponge into the water, it will fully re-erect. In the figurative sense, Breuss saw the intervertebral discs, which become thin under stress and can be nourished and "swelled" up again with the help of the special massage technique and the St. John's wort oil used.

Expiry of the Breuss massage

The process is gentle and calm. With certain handles and using St. John's wort oil, the spine is stretched and the metabolism of the intervertebral discs is stimulated. The Breuss massage begins with a stretching and stretching of the spine. For this purpose, only a small amount of oil is used, so that the skin gets a stimulus, in order then to be able to absorb treatment and St. John's wort oil better. In the course of the massage certain grip techniques are applied and repeated, whereby more and more oil comes into play here. At the end, the back is oiled again, put a thin tissue paper on the back and this brought with a little handshake on the skin. Following the covering with a towel, energy work follows for a few minutes. After a rest period of about two to three minutes, the tissue paper is removed and excess oil is removed with a towel. It follows again a short rest.

The Breuss massage can be used before or after a spine treatment or completely independently of it. With this gentle, energetic massage form not only tension on the back, but also emotional blockages are solved.

Indications: Breuss massage

The Breuss massage is a very gentle massage that promotes good health and wellbeing. With it the spine is stretched gently and with tension in the area of the back, depressive moods, sleep disturbances, stress and fatigue it can serve well. Massaging should not be used for acute inflammations, such as a feverish cold, open skin, herniated discs and spinal disorders.

St. John's wort oil

St. John's wort oil is really a very special oil. St. John's wort is considered as a so-called light bringer, a plant that brings light into life. The oil has a positive effect on the nerves, relaxes the muscles, is anti-inflammatory and curative. However, it is important to pay attention to a good, high quality product. Since St. John's wort produces increased sensitivity to light, the oil should be washed off after the massage, before the sun is visited.

Summary

Spine therapy according to Dorn and Breuss is an indispensable method of gently treating displacements and blockages in the spine. Blockages and deformities often affect the entire body, not least the internal organs. Thus, associated complaints can be improved by the spinal column therapy, possibly even completely eliminated. The spine therapy according to Dorn and Breuss is, unfortunately, a method that has not yet been scientifically recognized, but the successes to be achieved make the therapists right. A sound education is the basis for a successful treatment. (Sw)
