magnetic therapy

magnetic therapy / Naturopathy

Even in antiquity, complaints were treated with the help of magnetic therapy in the form of magnetic stones, without really knowing their effect. Pure intuition let people use the right remedy at the right time.

There are many scientific papers on magnetic therapy older than acupuncture, however, this therapy is still partly controversial in the field of blessing medicine, whereas it is successfully used in naturopathy in many practices. Magnetic therapy uses pulsed or static magnetic fields. In conventional medicine, this therapy is used by its supporters, especially in orthopedics. Naturopathy uses magnetic field therapy together with many different natural treatment methods for the prevention, but also for the treatment of various diseases. The Nobel Prize winner in physics Werner Heisenberg realized that the life energy of the organism is dependent on magnetic field energy. The animated nature can not live without magnetism.

History of Magnetic Field Therapy

In antiquity among the Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks and Romans, the power of magnetic stones and magnetic rods was already used. The Romans turned magnetic stones into powders to heal eye diseases, gout and melancholy. Even the Greek doctor Hippocrates knew about the healing power of magnets and recommended them for epilepsy, inflammation and hemorrhoids. According to tradition, Franz Anton Mesmer (1734 - 1815) successfully used a magnet to treat a blind patient. Paracelsus also regularly included magnets in his therapy work. In modern times, people began to use this ancient medical treatment again.

The discovery of electricity gave the magnets a completely different shape. The "new" magnetic therapy, which developed thereupon, had little in common with the "old" magnetic therapy. The nineteenth and twentieth centuries were the time when many scientists studied the biophysical and physiological mechanisms of magnetic field therapy. However, these are still not fully explored and confirmed, although there are now more than six thousand publications of medical studies on magnetic therapy.

Pulsing magnetic therapy

In the nineteenth century, further research in the field of magnetic therapy has shown that pulsed magnetic fields vibrate the cells of the body. In the sixties, the surgeon Fritz Lechner and the physicist Werner Kraus developed a method to positively stimulate damaged cells using pulsed magnetic fields. Magnetic field therapy was used to stimulate callus formation in bone fractures. The pulsating magnetic vibrations improve the oxygen absorption of the body cells, increase the energy metabolism and stimulate the body's defense. In the pulsating magnetic therapy, a pulse passes through a control unit to so-called coils, whereby a magnetic field is built up. The pulse is taken over the control over and over again. Usually, the ECUs used have different programs that can be used depending on the disease.

Effect of pulsating magnetic therapy

The smallest "living" component of man is the cell. Every human consists of about 100 trillion cells. All cells must be supplied with oxygen and nutrients, have individual tasks and also eliminate waste materials. Between the outside and the inside of the cell membrane there is electrical voltage, the so-called membrane potential. The cells communicate constantly with each other. Incorrect diet, environmental stress, stress and much more can negatively affect the membrane potential, which usually has a voltage of 70-90 millivolts. As a result, the cells can no longer properly work and provide the life energy. If additional stress such as smoking, alcohol or the like is added, symptoms such as constant fatigue, headache, loss of performance and sleep disturbances can occur.

Studies have found that the energy of a magnet can stimulate the metabolism in the human body to produce more amino acids. These are vital and almost involved in all processes in the body. In addition, researchers found that the circulation of the organism with magnetic energy promotes blood circulation, which can relieve tension. The pulsating magnetic field therapy can produce both a targeted and a holistic effect.

The new findings helped to further develop the devices to be used in magnetic field therapy. In various clinics, the pulsating magnetic therapy has been used for decades. It is used primarily for pain relief in the musculoskeletal system. Likewise, this therapy is used in osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and disorders in wound healing. Magnetic therapy should also strengthen the immune system, increase well-being and improve the general condition.

Course of the pulsating magnetic therapy

The pulsating magnetic therapy takes place in a comfortable posture while sitting or lying down. The diseased body part is guided into a so-called tube, which generates the magnetic field. In the case of therapy, no undressing is actually necessary, but items such as jewelery and watches have to be removed. If the clothing contains metal, it must be removed as well. The duration of treatment is about fifteen to thirty minutes and is usually performed two to three times a week. The cost of a treatment is between fifteen and thirty euros. The private health insurances usually pay for the costs, whereas the insured persons have to pay for the magnetic field therapy themselves.

In the pulsating magnetic field therapy, it can sometimes come to an initial aggravation, as well as other naturopathic therapies (for example, homeopathy) is known. A short-term worsening of the symptoms is considered by the treating therapist as a good response to the therapy. For a disease that requires prolonged use of magnetic therapy, there is also the option of home treatment using home appliances.

Static magnetic therapy

Already in the Middle Ages, the placement of magnets achieved healings. Magnetic patches were attached for scar treatment and permanent magnets were placed on acupuncture points. Magnetic therapy fans today wear permanent magnet bracelets to alleviate, for example, pain, indigestion and hormonal imbalances.

Representatives of magnetic field therapy know the so-called magnetic field deficiency syndrome, which is caused by the gradually decreasing geomagnetic field of our earth. Likewise, the opinion of the supporters of Magnetic Therapy is that the lifestyle of people, such as increasing residence in cars that comply with a Faraday cage or life in concrete buildings, a shield from the natural magnetic fields. Small or larger flat foil-like permanent magnets are used. These are very easy to use, inexpensive and effective. In Japan, for example, magnetic therapy has long been one of the recognized therapeutic methods.

The permanent magnets are used in magnetic therapy for various diseases, such as tension in the musculoskeletal system, headaches and to reduce the amount of painkillers. The effectiveness occurs in part already after hours. As with the pulsating magnetic field therapy, an initial aggravation is also possible here. This can be regulated by changing the type and duration of the application. Various types of permanent magnets are used. Magnetic cushions, mattresses with integrated magnets, magnetic foils, magnetic bracelets, insoles with magnets and much more are used.

What needs to be considered

Magnetic field therapy should not be used on people who are carriers of pacemakers, defibrillators and insulin pumps. Likewise, the treatment with magnets is contraindicated in pregnant women, children, people with medicated patches and after organ transplants.

Magnetic field therapy in natural medicine

The therapeutic approach in naturopathy states that diseased cells have a lower magnetic potential than healthy cells. Thus, the use of magnetic therapy, the cells are provided with an energy boost and, so to speak, revitalized, which in the opinion of naturopathy can cause relief or even cure. The body's resistance and the autonomic nervous system are positively influenced. The knowledge of the organ times according to the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) can provide assistance with the magnetic field therapy. For example, according to Chinese teaching, the stomach has its peak between seven and nine o'clock in the morning. Accordingly, in order to increase the effect of the magnetic field, the treatment of stomach problems is performed between seven and nine o'clock. Other naturopathic methods are used with magnetic therapy. Dietary supplements, plants from phytotherapy or Schuessler salts are suitable as adjunctive therapies.

Side effects of magnetic therapy

Both in the application of pulsed magnetic field therapy and the static magnetic field therapy almost no side effects are known. Especially sensitive patients may sometimes experience a feeling of warmth or tingling, which can be alleviated by changing the intensity and / or duration of the treatment. (Sw)
