liver congestion

A congestive liver arises as a consequence of the persistent backflow of blood in the venous system, such as e.g. in chronic right heart failure or by flow obstacles directly in the hepatic veins. The congestion causes tissue changes in the liver with impaired function.

complaints

The complaints of the congestive liver consist mainly in right upper abdominal pain and jaundice (jaundice), later it comes in many cases to ascites (ascites). Left untreated, typical symptoms develop into progressive hepatic insufficiency, which eventually leads to cirrhosis of the liver.

therapy
