Kidney tumors and kidney cancer

The term kidney tumor summarizes all benign and malignant growths of the kidney. The malignant tumors, usually renal carcinomas, are also referred to as kidney cancer.

Benign kidney tumors

Benign kidney tumors are usually discovered by chance and rarely removed. Benign neoplasms of the kidneys grow slowly and are usually without discomfort. Sometimes only a pressure in the kidney area or flank pain or back pain is felt. However, benign kidney tumors are often discovered by chance. Only very large kidney tumors pressing on surrounding organs are surgically removed. A common benign kidney tumor is the renal adenoma, which usually develops in the elderly and usually occurs in the renal tissue of the renal cortex. In contrast, fibroids, myomas and lipomas are more likely to be found in the kidney connective tissue.

kidney cancer

Kidney cancer affects children much more often than adults. Malignant kidney tumors make up about 85% of kidney tumors as kidney cancer, but are among the rarer cancers in adults at three percent. Kidney cancer occurs in adults as renal carcinoma or renal pelvic carcinoma Children are significantly more likely to be affected by kidney cancer than adults, especially between the 3rd and 5th Age occurs in them, the malignant nephroblastoma (also: Wilms tumor) on. As a symptom there is often only a painless swelling in the abdomen.

Unclear pain in the back, flanks, kidney and abdominal pain without findings are just as complaints of urination or blood in the urine always medically clarified to exclude kidney cancer. This is all the more true if nonspecific general symptoms such as persistent fatigue, striking loss of appetite and rapid weight loss are added. (Dipl.Päd.
