Causes of hair root inflammation
Mostly, the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus is the culprit that causes a hair root inflammation. This pathogen is actually part of the normal, healthy skin flora. However, the bacteria produces exotoxins. These toxins invade the follicles and cause inflammation. However, other bacteria and fungi can cause folliculitis.
Each hair is formed in a separate hair follicle. When bacteria enter the follicles, inflammation develops. (Image: ag visual / fotolia.com)Symptoms of inflammation of the hair follicle
In the follicular funnel penetrated pathogens trigger the hair root inflammation. Here are raised bubbles or nodules, which are usually filled with yellowish-green pus and pierced in the middle of a hair. As a rule, these parts itch, but they can also be sensitive to pain.

At body sites that have no hair follicles, such as palms and soles, no hair root inflammation occur. Predilection sites (preferred body regions) are mainly the beard area, the buttocks, the chest hair, thighs and the head.
Which promotes the development of folliculitis
Sweating promotes the development of folliculitis, as increased sweating can lead to an increase of bacteria and their toxins. Diabetes mellitus or a weakened immune system favor the occurrence of hair root inflammation.
Frequent use of fatty ointments or fatty oils can clog the pores of the skin, already invaded pathogens are trapped there and form a breeding ground for the emergence of the hair follicle inflammation. Above all, ointment-based ointments can block the natural regulatory mechanisms and thus facilitate the entry of the pathogens.
People who suffer from acne, atopic dermatitis or psoriasis are predisposed to folliculitis.
Sometimes, follicular injury causes inflammation. This often happens as part of a shave and affects both men in wet shaving as well as women shaving their legs, underarms or pubic area. An acidification that has been present for some time may be the cause of folliculitis.

The hair root inflammation is a superficial inflammation of the hair follicle. If it spreads deeper, it becomes a boil. This produces a larger, up to walnut-sized node that has a central pus accumulation. The area is red and warm.
A boil can sometimes cause quite a bit of pain, depending on the degree and location. For example, a boil in the underarm area, usually a very painful matter. Predilection sites for boils are the neck, the buttocks, the thigh inside and the upper lip. If the furuncles are extensive, this is called carbuncle.
School medical treatment for folliculitis
The treatment depends on the degree of manifestation of the hair root inflammation. Often antibiotic ointments are administered by a doctor. In massive inflammation, however, the internal use of a suitable antibiotic may be the drug of choice.
If the triggers are fungi, it is treated with an antifungal. When the beard lichen (hair root inflammation in the beard), should not be shaved wet until the inflammation has subsided. On a sufficient hygiene here is to pay particular attention.
Naturopathy treatment
In the first place here is the cause research. In diabetics, the visit to the doctor must not be missed, to determine whether the patient is also correctly adjusted by medication. In addition, the nutrition of the person affected must be questioned. If a weakened immune system is the cause of the hair root inflammation, then measures should be taken, which strengthen the immune system. Here are a chair rehabilitation, self-blood therapy, cupping treatment and a variety of plants, such as the taiga root, Echinacea, arnica or propolis are used.
Applied externally, the application of abscess ointments, which contain active ingredients of the larch and the jaw, helps promote healing. Warm compresses enriched with a little chamomile contribute to healing. Homeopathic remedies such as Hepar sulfuris, Silicea, Myristica sebifera are also used here.
Silica is often used when sufferers are prone to recurrent suppurations, but also for a thorough cure. Myristica, called the homeopathic knife, helps open the pus and melt it. Hepar sulfuris is used for unhealthy skin, which easily fester. For recurrent, frequent inflammations, the constitutional remedy is selected by a detailed and thorough anamnesis.
In cases of folliculitis, the affected areas may itch or ache severely. Remedy various natural remedies. (Image: absolutimages / fotolia.com)An effective home remedy for hair follicles is a treatment with healing earth, as it relieves the itching and promotes healing. To do this, mix the soil with a little water to make a thick pulp and apply it about half a centimeter thick to the affected area of the skin. After about 30 minutes, rinse the healing earth with lukewarm water again.
From the aromatherapy tea tree oil is recommended. Spotted in very small amounts, this has anti-inflammatory effects. In the case of hair root inflammation, the Schuessler salt therapy relies on salts No. 11 Silicea, No. 1 Calcium fluoratum and No. 12 Calcium sulfuricum. These are primarily administered internally. However, they can also be mixed with some water to a pulp and applied externally to the pustules to relieve the itching and pain and aid in the healing process.
Patients suffering from recurring hair root inflammation must be sure to get to the root of the cause. Diabetes, acne and other skin conditions can be the reason. In general, folliculitis requires hygiene.
For example, a barber should not use the wet shaver for some time and the dry shaver should be disinfected before and after each use. If the small pustules are open, the spots should be cleaned until they have healed. The diluted Calendula Essence is a great help.
Nutritional change in hyperacidity
An acidification that has existed for some time can trigger a hair root inflammation. Here a change in diet helps. Above all, it is important to reduce everything that is animal. These include, in particular, meat, sausages, fish and dairy products. These foods are all metabolized "sour". By contrast, almost all fruits and vegetables are basic foods.
It would be best to feed yourself so that the ratio basic to sour is 3: 1. In addition, care must be taken to ensure adequate hydration in the form of still water. Of course, a change in diet does not seem to be overnight. Here is some patience required. In naturopathic practice is usually asked about the dietary habits and if necessary, a conversion recommended.
Frequently recurring hair root inflammations
If a patient is frequently affected by recurrent hair root inflammation, great attention must be paid to the cause of inflammation. If there is an underlying disease, this should of course be treated first. It may be an extraStrengthening the immune system recommended. (sw, updated on 19.10.2017)
