Pampering program for the needy
Around 40 volunteers have organized a pampering program for homeless people in Bremen. According to the news agency dpa, those in need of help could have their hair cut, enjoy a massage, or have their doctors examined, in addition to a hearty breakfast and a hot shower. „It's about paying attention to people“, explained Andreas Schack of the Maltese. For the third time, Malteser, Caritas and the St. Johannis School organized the „feel-good morning“, for which up to 200 guests were expected this year.
Health-endangering living conditions
According to estimates, around 300,000 people do not have their own apartment in Germany, about 25,000 live on the street. The Federal Working Group on Homelessness Aid further predicts a rise in the number of homeless people to 380,000 by the year 2016. It is especially dramatic that the people who live on the street, and thus under extremely harmful conditions, can usually not afford a doctor's visit and medical help. (Ad)
