Healthy diet: weekly balance of the nutrient amount must be right

03/03/2015

Health and nutrition experts repeatedly point to certain guidelines that are important for a healthy diet. For example, health-conscious people strive to eat the right amount of fruit and vegetables every day. Much more important, however, is that the weekly balance is right.

Fruits and vegetables are healthy
In the past, numerous studies have shown that people who eat a lot of fruits and vegetables regularly do something good for their health. According to research, this will lower blood pressure, for example. This, in turn, has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system if hypertension is alleviated. In addition, a diet that is also high in fiber thanks to a lot of fruits and vegetables is helpful in stimulating digestion and reducing the risk of overweight and obesity. This also reduces the risk of diabetes. Experts have been arguing about whether it should be at least five or seven servings of fruits and vegetables a day. But even more important is obviously the weekly balance.

Important is the weekly average
Recommendations, such as eating five servings of fruit and vegetables every day, are buzzing around in the minds of many people in the search for a healthy diet. However, the suggested guideline values do not have to be fulfilled every day or with a single meal, the German Nutrition Society (DGE) explains in a message from the dpa news agency. According to the information, it is sufficient to reach the targets on a weekly average. On individual days, you can beat over or under the strings.

Vitamin C demand is quickly covered
Because the human body can dispose of certain nutrients in high doses anyway, it is beneficial to take them as often as possible, but in a low concentration. Vitamin C is 110 milligrams as a recommended level for adult men and 95 milligrams per day for adult women. However, pregnant women need more from the fourth month, namely 105 milligrams. The need is already covered by half a red pepper (75 grams) and a small glass of orange juice (125 milliliters). (Ad)
