Resuscitation course in the Berlin Olympic Stadium
Berlin: Mass revival course in the Olympic Stadium
03/10/2011
The European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM) wanted to break the previous world record with a large-scale mass revival course in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Although not enough participants came together to actually set the record, but the event was still a success according to the organizers.
In the run-up to the football Bundesliga match between Hertha BSC and 1. FC Köln on Saturday, ESCIM hosts its mass revival course in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. Around 250 intensive care physicians explained life-saving measures such as mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and cardiac massages for 30 minutes using inflatable first aid puppets. However, the 7,910 participants required for the world record did not come together. The mass resuscitation course was organized as part of the 24th annual ESICM Congress, with which the European Society for Intensive Care Medicine also wants to make the public more aware of life-saving measures. The conference runs until Wednesday and offers interested parties around 500 lectures, presentations, debates and round table discussions as well as tutorials and interactive learning groups on life-saving emergency measures.
According to the experts, Germany lags a bit behind in its knowledge of lifesaving emergency measures, so that public events such as the current mass revival course are intended to provide the population with more information. (Fp)
