For the eleventh time now, the World Blood Donor Day will take place on Sunday. Under the motto "Your blood donation saves lives - Thank you", the number of regular donors should be increased. Joint action with the Polish Blood Transfusion Service
Under the official motto "Your Blood Donation Saves Life - Thank You" takes place on Sunday for the eleventh time World Blood Donor Day. In many countries, organizations want to attract more blood donors through promotions on this day. As the news agency dpa reports, the German Red Cross (DRK) called on the occasion of the action day together with the Polish blood donation service to an action in Görlitz. Accordingly, there is a donor mobile on the upper market and refresher courses for first aid are also offered by the DRK.
Only three percent of Germans donate blood
The life-saving measure should be made aware of under the motto "Together for voluntary and unpaid blood donation in Europe". In Saxony, the supply situation is still stable, in the summer holidays, the supply is, however, usually scarce, so a DRK spokeswoman. Nationwide, the number of blood donors also drops during other holidays such as at Christmas or as a result of a large flu epidemic. As the DRC blood services north-east recently announced, 33 percent of Germans could donate blood, but only three percent do it. (Ad)
