Doctors remove 200 gallstones from the belly of a woman
In China, 200 gallstones were removed from a woman's stomach. She had previously complained for years of severe abdominal pain. The treating physicians assume that the gallstones had formed because the 45-year-old almost never had breakfast. For other experts, however, this thesis is just pure speculation.

Barely breakfasted for years
For some people, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, others say extensive breakfast is rather unhealthy. A woman from China has almost never eaten for nearly ten years in the mornings. According to doctors, this fact is responsible for the fact that 200 gallstones were formed in her body. According to other experts, however, this thesis is pure speculation.

200 gallstones removed from the body
According to media reports, 200 gallstones were removed from the gallbladder and liver at Guangji Hospital, Hezhou, China. Some of them are supposed to have been as big as eggs. The procedure lasted six and a half hours.

The 45-year-old female patient, according to a report in the British newspaper Daily Mail, said she had suffered from severe abdominal pain for about ten years.

In addition, she had been advised years ago, to be treated for the complaints, but she had not done so because she was afraid of an operation.

Many do not know about their gallstones
Although many people have gallstones, not everyone is aware of them. According to experts, up to 80 percent of those affected know nothing about it. Sometimes gallstones can cause severe pain.

The stones cause no complaints, according to health experts, no treatment is needed. But if it does happen, they usually have to be removed.

Often women are affected. The risk group also speaks of the "five F": female, fat, fertile, forty, fair (female, overweight, fertile, forty years old, fair-skinned or blonde).

Barely breakfasted for years
In the case of the patient from China, her eating habits were responsible for the formation of gallstones. The 45-year-old had said she had almost never had breakfast during the last decade.

Dr. According to the Daily Mail, Quan Xuwei from the surgical team at Guangji Hospital said that many of his patients suffering from gallstones often skinned breakfast or just slid down quickly. This promotes the formation of small stones.

Dr. However, George Webster, Vice President of the British Gastroenterology Association, believes the Chinese physicians' thesis is "pure speculation without a scientific basis".

As the expert told the British newspaper, the cause of gallstones often remains unclear.

According to him, more patients with stones are found in the liver in China and East Asia than in the West. This is probably related to the increased infection rates in the bile ducts.

How it comes to gallstones
According to German experts, gallstones are caused by a disturbed mixing ratio of the bile juice produced by the liver. The bile is about 80 percent water.

It also contains cholesterol, bile acids, bile pigment bilirubin, lecithin and electrolytes. If too much cholesterol, bilirubin or calcium are added through the liver, these substances can form crystals that eventually form into stones over time.

Bile cholesterol can also be increased by other factors: obesity, pregnancy, severe weight loss or even old age.

Also influence on the mixing ratio may have longer periods of fasting, stress or irregular meals and thus promote gallstones.

Other factors that can promote the development are high-fat diet, chronic constipation and lack of exercise. However, in many patients, the formation is also genetic. (Ad)
