Cheese maker recalls whole product groups because of Listeria

After the cheese manufacturer Bergpracht Milchwerk had already started a recall a few days ago, this has now been expanded. Various cheese products may contain listeria causing flu-like symptoms or diarrhea. Among other Aldi is supplied by the company.

Extension of the recall
The Baden-Wuerttemberg company Bergpracht Milchwerk has considerably extended a recall campaign launched a few days ago. As the cheese manufacturer puts it, as a precautionary measure and for reasons of preventive consumer protection, the product groups white-mold cheese, soft cheese with blue mold, soft cheese with ingredients and semi-hard semi-hard cheese with white mold would be recalled. As reported by the company in Tettnang on Lake Constance, the packs could contain listeria causing flu-like symptoms or diarrhea, in rare cases even fatal. The products which have entered the wholesale and retail trade bear the veterinary control number DE-BW 077-EG.

Sales price will be refunded
The company initially had only 150-gram packs of „Bioland Organic Hofkäse“ such as „Our home farm cheese“ taken from the market. The now recalled varieties, including their expiration date, can be found on the company's website (www.bergpracht.de). In addition, numerous cheeses of Bergpracht, Tettnanger, Alpenmark, Omira, dennree, Heirler, From here, Fiori, Bayernland, Cheeseland and Our home are affected by the recall. Among other things, Bergpracht supplies parts of the supermarket chain Aldi Süd and the food retail trade. As it is called by the company, the buyers of the affected products will be refunded the sale price if they bring it back. This also without presentation of the receipt. "It can not be ruled out that the affected products contain bacteria of the species Listeria monocytogenes, which can lead to severe illnesses with flu-like symptoms and, in rare cases, even fatal," according to the company's website.

Pregnant women are at increased risk
Listeria is a bacteria that may cause the dangerous disease listeriosis. This infectious disease, which has been notifiable in Germany since 2001, primarily affects people who have poor physical defense. In addition, pregnant women have an approximately 12-fold increased risk of developing it. The course of the disease is similar to that of influenza. Thus sufferers suffer first from diarrhea and violent abdominal pain and later often with fever, severe headache or even paralysis and dizziness.
