18.02.2011
Manufacturer launches recall because of hydrogen peroxide in „Landliebe“-Pudding. The dairy Friesland Campina warns consumers against the consumption of various semolina and cream puddings.
Because of possible residues of hydrogen peroxide in several „Landliebe“- Puddings, the manufacturer, the dairy Friesland Campina, has launched a recall. The excessive doses of hydrogen peroxide had come through the technical failure of a filling machine in the products, according to the message of the dairy in Heilbronn. Hydrogen peroxide can irritate the mucous membranes and cause nausea, which is why consumers are advised against consumption, the manufacturer warned.
Affected by the recall „Landliebe“-puddings
According to the dairy, the 125-gram and 150-gram cups are affected by the hydrogen peroxide load „Country love semolina pudding“ with best before dates from 27 February 2011 to 11 March 2011 inclusive „Country love cream pudding vanilla and chocolate“ The 150 gram cup with a best-before date until 23 February 2011 or between 2 March 2011 and 6 March 2011 will be affected by the recall. Consumers are requested not to consume the products concerned, which have been distributed through numerous supermarkets throughout Germany. Customers can send the cup lids in an envelope at the Friesland Campina Germany GmbH, Wimpfener Straße 125, 74078 Heilbronn and can reimburse the purchase price, the company said. For further information, customers can also contact the consumer service of the dairy Friesland Campina at the telephone number 07131 / 489-160.
Hydrogen peroxide use in the food industry
Hydrogen peroxide has antiseptic properties and is used in the food industry as a 35 percent hydrogen peroxide solution in bottling plants for sterilizing cups, PET bottles, plastic containers and typical multi-layer carton packaging. According to the dairy Friesland Campina, there was occasionally an increased filling of the disinfectant on a filling machine in their factory due to a technical fault. Since hydrogen peroxide, which is also commonly used as bleach (textiles) or caustics (microelectronics) at higher doses, may cause irritation of the mucous membranes and nausea, with children in particular being more sensitive to the chemical, the dairy has responded promptly and recalled the potentially affected products.
