Warning of germs in herring stops
Germ load: Recall action for herring started
07/19/2011
Again recall because of germ contamination in herring snacks of the company LB fish in Willstätt. The Heringshappen in vegetable oil contain dangerous germs, which can cause heavy infections in humans, warn the health authorities in Baden-Wuerttemberg. All canned food with a shelf life until June 22, 2011 can be returned to the supermarket, according to the latest news from LB Fisch.
After already in the past year increased bacterial load in the „Herring snack in vegetable oil“ The company has now started another product recall campaign for so-called Listeria for the same product range. The bacteria can trigger significant health problems, including life-threatening sepsis or meningitis, warn health authorities.
Herring snacks contain dangerous germs
Because of the Listeria strain, the „Herring snack in vegetable oil 250 grams“, „Herring snack in vegetable oil with garden herbs 245 grams“, „Herring snack in vegetable oil with smoke 250 grams“, „Herring snack in vegetable oil with beetroot 250 g“ and „Herring snack in vegetable oil with spices 250 grams“ The company LB Fisch with the best before date 22 June 2011 recalled. Consumers are encouraged not to consume the products in question, but instead to return them for reimbursement of the purchase price in the supermarket to avoid possible health problems. The bacteria contained in lower concentrations, for example also in raw milk cheese, are a health risk that should not be underestimated, especially for persons with a weakened immune system and for pregnant women. Only products with the stated best-before date are expressly affected.
Germs can trigger the infectious disease listeriosis
The listeriosis-induced infectious disease listeriosis is in most cases relatively harmless with nonspecific symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever and diarrhea. In persons with weakened immune defense such as AIDS patients or diabetics, however, threatens a significantly more severe disease, which can even lead to life-threatening consequences such as blood poisoning and meningitis in the worst case. For women in pregnancy, Listeria is primarily threatening to the unborn child because prematurity and miscarriage, as well as serious fetal damage, can be caused by the bacteria. Therefore, the endangered people should generally refrain from potentially containing Listeria food. (Fp)
