Illy starts recall because of dangerous packaging: health hazard
The consumer protection portal lebensmittelwarnung.de by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety warns against dangerous coffee packaging. The well-known company illycaffè, which primarily sells high-quality coffee products and coffee machines, launches a Germany-wide recall because of the lack of a vent valve on products with whole beans that are sold in a 250-gram can.
When opening the can, there is a risk of health due to a risk of injury, as the metal lid can loose uncontrolled and jerky. Affected are some non-compliant 250 gram cans of coffee with whole beans and the best before date between October 2019 and February 2020. In particular, the company cites medium and dark roast, caffeine-free, Monoarabica Brazil and Arabica Selection Guatemala as affected varieties.
If the bottom has deformed as shown above, the can should not be opened. (Image: pressinformation / illy.com)Missing bleed valve
The manufacturer asks his customers to check the bottom of the coffee cans. If there is no bleeder valve, it is a faulty can. Particular care should be taken if the can has already bulged. Customers who have purchased a defective can can return it unopened.
Content harmless
The manufacturer emphasizes that the quality of the product is of the usual quality. Only the faulty packaging and the associated health risks when opening were objectionable. Illycaffè asks the affected customers to contact the company's customer service to coordinate the collection and exchange of the product. (Vb)
