Full nose even without a cold
Even without a cold nose full?

When the nose is constantly running and swelling makes nasal breathing difficult, many immediately suspect an infection or allergic reaction as the cause. Especially in the cold period or hay fever season, this relationship seems obvious. If, however, the aqueous secretion persists longer and does not disappear completely throughout the year, then a disturbed function of the blood vessel nerves and thus a special form of the cold - the so-called vasomotor rhinitis - as a trigger into consideration.
„In some people, even slight mechanical, thermal or chemical stimuli lead to an overreaction of the nasal mucosa“ explains Dr. Uso Walter, practicing ear, nose and throat doctor and chairman of the medical network HNOnet NRW. These include, for example, dry or dusty air, cold or certain medications. The therapy starts where triggering factors lie. Often it is enough to avoid them. To exclude organic causes such as inflammatory changes, ENT specialists use endoscopy to examine the condition of the nose and the condition of the nasal mucosa. The drug treatment is similar to that of allergic rhinitis. Most cortisone-containing sprays are used. This overreactions of the secretory glands are reduced, thus reducing the runny nose. What measures should be taken, the treating ENT doctor decides after intensive questioning and investigation of the person concerned. (Pm)
