Vitamin D deficiency favors Parkinson's
Study: Obvious link between vitamin D deficiency and Parkinson's Disease discovered.
(13.07.2010) Finnish researchers have found a link between the disease Parkinson's disease and a physical deficiency of vitamin D on the basis of a study. A lack of vitamin D causes a threefold increased risk of Parkinson's disease.
Scientists at the National Institute for Health and Welfare have found a link between vitamin D and Parkinson's. In the course of a study, the data of a total of 3000 subjects were evaluated. It was found that a deficiency of vitamin D increases the risk of Parkinson's disease by a factor of three. The researchers now assume that vitamin D is also responsible for the protection of human nerve cells.
In the long-term study, the data of the 3000 study participants was evaluated since the 1980s. Vitamin D is found in many foods such as oil, milk, fish and various cereals. However, vitamin D is also produced by the influence of the sun's rays in the body. As people get older, the skin's ability to produce vitamin D also decreases. So far, it has not yet been scientifically proven that vitamin D is not only responsible for bone formation, but, as it has now become known, also for the protection of human nerve cells of the immune system. The study director Marian Evatt, from the Neurological "Institute of the Emory University School of Medicine" claims that about 30 nanograms of vitamin D per milliliter of blood per day are valuable for the construction. How much vitamin D is now also important for the protection of the nervous system, you know at the moment not yet. Because too much vitamin D can also have a harmful (toxic) effect on the human body. Therefore, it is tempting to say that you can counteract the Parkinson's risk with a certain dose of vitamin D in old age. The researchers now want to conduct further studies in this area.
Parkinson's disease usually begins between the ages of 50 and 60 years. In the age group 40 to 44 years, one in every 10,000 people falls ill with the disease. In Germany, there are currently about 400,000 patients suffering from Parkinson's disease. Symptoms of Parkinson's disease can be alleviated with naturopathic methods such as relaxation, meditation, breathing and exercise exercises. These include qigong, yoga, acupuncture and massages.
