As the police in Regensburg announced on Tuesday, a 34-year-old man has spent as a specialist in general medicine and treated many patients without having ever completed a medical degree. The impostor was unmasked when he publicly proclaimed himself a company doctor. The police hope that more people will report that the alleged doctor has treated. Because so far it is still unclear how many patients have gone to the medical care of the 34-year-olds.
Police ask population for assistance in investigations against Regensburg impostors
Police and prosecutors have been investigating the false doctor from Neutraubling in the Upper Palatinate since the end of 2011, among other things because of fraud and title abuse. This had spent despite lack of qualification as a specialist in general medicine. The investigation so far had shown that the wrong doctor had been working in Regensburg and the surrounding area since 2010. „We want to warn people against this man, who is still at large“, explained Michael Rebele, spokesman for the Police Headquarters Upper Palatinate. The police also ask the population for help. Former patients of the impostor are urged to report urgently to the police, as it is not yet known how many people the presumed general practitioner has treated. As it is certain that the man has offered his medical services over the Internet, as the police said. Ultimately, the impostor was unmasked when this publishes publicly as a company doctor at a Regensburg company.
Death of a patient caused by a false doctor?
In a further case of fraud, a fake doctor could even have caused the death of a patient. As confirmed by the University Hospital Gießen-Marburg, a false doctor had contact with patients there and even performed surgeries. The native Jordanian apparently worked for two years, from November 2002 to October 2004, as an assistant doctor in the Marburg Clinic for Neurosurgery. The 47-year-old accused may also have to answer for the death of a patient in Magdeburg. In a routine disc surgery involving the Jordanian, the patient died.
Currently, the prosecutor investigates for fraud, forgery and suspicion of negligent homicide against the wrong doctor. According to the University of Marburg, the application documents of the man had not been conspicuous. At that time there had been nothing to complain about the documents. (Ag)
