Taste of vanilla: Create delicious desserts with Tonka Bean
Nutrition experts have recently pointed out that eating a dessert a day is better than snacking all day long. To make the dessert really delicious, consumers can grab Tonka bean. This spice is often used as a vanilla substitute.
Delicious alternative to vanilla sugar
Tonka bean is a delicious alternative to vanilla sugar when preparing fine desserts. Tonka beans come from South America and taste very sweetly like vanilla and bitter almond, as the consumer advice Bayern explained on their website. The beans are now a trend spice in local cuisines because of their exceptional taste, they are suitable for sweet as well as savory dishes. The hard Tonka beans are best rubbed off with a nutmeg grater. It can also be boiled in liquids such as milk or coconut milk and then removed again.
Conserve tonka beans sparingly
However, tonka beans should always be used sparingly as they naturally contain coumarin. "This plant compound can cause liver damage in higher doses," explains Silke Noll, nutrition expert at the Bavarian Consumer Center. "Anyone who occasionally eats dishes spiced with tonka beans, however, does not have to fear any health consequences," says Noll. In Germany, the use of the plant for food preparation was banned for a long time. In 1991, however, the ban was lifted.
Natural remedy with erotic effect
In the US, the use of tonka bean in food is still prohibited. Indians in South America use tonka beans as an effective remedy for nausea and cough issues. In addition, the Tonka bean is said to have an erotic effect, it is often used in the production of men's perfumes. In aromatherapy it is recommended for relieving stress, tension and insomnia. (Ad)
