Unhealthy overdose Children eat significantly too much sugar
Nowadays there are more and more obese children. The reasons are often a poor diet and lack of exercise. British researchers found that children eat too much sugar. In some cases, the adolescents studied consumed twice as much sugar as a healthy child would normally consume during the day.
The researchers from Public Health England found in their study that children often consume more than twice as much sugar as is normally recommended in nutritional guidelines for adolescents. This naturally causes many health hazards. The physicians published a press release with the results of the National Diet and Nutrition Survey.
Many adults are getting fatter. As a result, sufferers endanger their health. Researchers found that obesity and overweight continue to increase in adolescents. (Image: kwanchaichaiudom / fotolia.com)Obesity and obesity are on the rise worldwide
More and more people worldwide are suffering from overweight and obesity. Many children and adolescents also feed unhealthily and get fatter and fatter. Of course, this will have a negative impact on human health, say the experts. In Germany alone, about seven million people are on therapy for obesity.
Children need a healthy diet and much more sports
For some time, doctors warn that more and more children have problems with their weight. But what can we do if our offspring is getting fatter? For example, older studies have shown that younger siblings promote good health and prevent obesity. Of course, we should also motivate our children to do more sports and to move more generally. Experts call for a lot more sport for children to prevent obesity.
Many children in the UK are overweight or obese
The results of the new survey are extremely worrying. Today, one in three 10-year-old British children is overweight or obese and one in three 5-year-old children suffers from tooth decay, the researchers explain. The effects of excessive sugar consumption should be taken urgently and tackled, the experts add.
Children consume twice as much sugar as recommended
The new survey included 1,288 adults and 1,258 children. All subjects carried a so-called food diary over a period of three or four days. According to the results of the survey, children aged four to ten years on average consumed 100 milliliters (ml) of sugary drinks per day. Between 2008 and 2010, around 130 ml of children drank even more sugary drinks daily, the researchers say. Yet, sugar still accounts for about 13 percent of children's daily calorie intake. This value is more than twice as high as the recommended amount of five percent, explain the doctors.
We should all change our diet
Many children between the ages of four and ten receive 13 percent of the daily calorie intake from saturated fat. These data provide compelling evidence that we should all consume more fruits, vegetables, fiber and oily fish, the authors explain. That's how we can reduce the intake of sugar, salt and saturated fat and improve our health, explains Alison Tedstone of Public Health England. Otherwise not infrequently remains as a last resort in obesity a stomach operation.
Obesity and obesity lead to dangerous diseases
It is encouraging to see that young children consume less sugary drinks. Nevertheless, the diet of adolescents and adults still contains far too much sugar, the researchers say. Affected children have a significantly increased risk of overweight and obesity. This also increases the risk of some heart disease, type 2 diabetes and different types of cancer, explain the authors. (As)
