Infertility indicator of later prostate cancer

American researchers from Seattle seem to have found an indication that there is a link between male infertility and the later onset of prostate cancer. Thomas J. Walsh, from the Department of Urology, University of Washington's Seattle School of Medicine, and colleagues reviewed data from over 22,000 nearly 30-year-old men who went to one of 15 treatment centers in the US state of California to have children had turned. They published their results in the trade magazine „Cancer“. Statistically speaking, 185 tumors could be expected. There were 168 fewer prostate cancers, but if the male partner was due to infertility, the risk of an aggressive form of prostate cancer was 2.6 times greater in these individuals.
Based on these indications, Thomas J. Walsh recommends men with infertility to have a PSA test suitable for early detection. PSA means „Prostate-specific antigen“. This is a protein that is formed inside the prostate and examined in the blood. For certain diseases, the level rises. (Thorsten Fischer, Naturopath Osteopathy, 24.03.2010)
