Despite visual impairment, no eye lasers
Despite poor eyesight, the majority of eyeglass wearers in Germany do not want to undergo laser treatment.
Only one in ten patients with vision aids such as glasses or contact lenses is considering laser treatment. This was the result of a representative survey study conducted by the GfK Market Research Institute in Nuremberg. Accordingly, only a minority would undergo such a medical intervention.
The main reason for the high rejection rate is the fear that irreversible laser treatment could result in lasting damage. 47.1 percent of respondents therefore reject laser therapy. Only 4.2 percent of those affected have previously undergone a laser intervention and are indeed very satisfied. Converted, only one out of every 24 patients with low vision needs laser treatment.
Eye laser therapy can not be done for all eye conditions. Only if the diopter ranges between -10 and +50, sufferers can undertake an OP. In addition, the diopter values should be as constant as possible within one year. All other patients continue to rely on visual aids. Corneal inflammation, a very thin cornea or an inflamed eye retina are other exclusion criteria for laser surgery.
In the survey, a total of 1031 men and women who rely on glasses or contact lenses were interviewed. The study was commissioned by the „pharmacy magazine“ instead of. (sb, 02.02.2011)
