In Thuringia, in contrast to the nationwide trend, more pregnancies were discontinued in the first quarter of the current year than in the previous year. There was only a medical indication for the demolition in very few women.
Increase in abortions in Thuringia
In Thuringia, 955 pregnancies were prematurely terminated in the first three months of the current year. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this was 31 cancellations or 3.4 percent more, as reported by the Statistical Office on Monday in Erfurt. Of the women who had a termination of pregnancy in the Free State, 913 (95.6 percent) were Thuringians. The other 42 women were resident in another federal state, including 28 women in Bavaria

Most of the affected women already have children
Of the affected Thuringian women more than two-thirds were single at the time of the crash and almost half of them were between 18 and 30 years old. 40 women were under 18 years old. There was only one medical indication for the demolition in 2.2 percent of women. Most of the women who had an abortion already had one or more children. Most of the interventions were carried out in gynecological practices or on an outpatient basis in the hospital.
Contrary to the nationwide trend
The increase in abortions in Thuringia is in contrast to the nationwide trend. In Germany, the number of crashes compared to the first quarter of the previous year decreased by 0.6 percent. The figures from the past year show a decline. According to the Federal Statistical Office, in 2013 102.802 abortions were reported nationwide. In 2012, 106,815 had been reported.
