The interest of the health insurance has different reasons. On the one hand, the cash register increases its attractiveness and can also advertise new members with such bonus programs. On the other hand, it supports the insured, who are thus encouraged to exercise more and are motivated. In this way, costs for treatments can be saved in the future if the members exercise more and live healthier lives. In the future, however, the health insurance companies plan to store the health data. Initial insurance companies, such as Generali, plan to introduce models that capture exercise and lifestyle data. In addition, the South African insurer Discovery has announced a business collaboration with Apple.
For Apple, the subsidy from the German health insurance is certainly quite convenient. According to a report by the "Wall Street Journal", the previous sales of the Apple Watch left a lot to be desired. Apple has not yet released figures on sales of the smartwatch. For a long time, new technologies and apps for amateur athletes have been in vogue. According to a recent representative survey by IT industry association Bitkom, six out of ten recreational athletes use high-tech equipment during training or competition. Smartphone, heart rate monitor and step and calorie counter are therefore the most popular sports companions. But also MP3 players, action cameras, conventional mobile phones and smart watches are used. Timm Lutter from Bitkom explained: "Technical devices can motivate and help to optimize the training. That's why they are as natural to many recreational athletes as the right running shoe or bicycle helmet. "
Of course, Apple plans a dovetailing of technology and health insurers. So Apple CEO Tim Cook said that he assumes a subsidy from the health insurance. This would make the sports watch significantly more affordable. (Sb)
