Especially in the carnival time, party lenses enjoy great popularity. Whether smily, cat's eye or scary look, party lenses are available in all variations. Completely harmless are the fun lenses however not as the board of trustees informed good seeing.
Beware of infections when exchanging party lenses
The Kuratorium Gut Sehen (KGS) in Berlin warns against swapping party lenses. Even if the temptation is great, the eye color with your best friend to exchange, it should be ensured that the fun lenses have been sufficiently disinfected. „Anyone who exchanges contact lenses without first disinfecting them sufficiently, gets foreign bodies directly on the eye. While the immune system copes with its own natural germ buds without any problems, another person's germs can quickly overwhelm the immune system and lead to an infection”, reports Peter Moest, Professor for Contact Optics and Optometric Measurement Methods at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin.
Do not wear party lenses when driving
Party lenses with motif restrict the field of vision and should therefore not be worn while driving. The KGS advises to replace the lenses before driving against the glasses or the normal contact lenses.
Meanwhile, colorful party lenses are also offered in drugstores or costume shops. Although there are the lenses with different correction values, but usually there is only one unit size that does not fit on every eye. As the KSG informs, too tight a lens can have health consequences for the eye. The walk to the optician is therefore advisable. (Ag)
