Low daily marijuana use does not harm the lungs

01/25/2015

Kiffen harms the health: This could be scientifically confirmed in numerous investigations. A study from the US now concludes that cannabis use for the lungs does not necessarily have to be harmful. However, then the daily dose may not be more than a joint.

Not more than a joint a day
The fact that smoking weed can harm health has been shown in many studies. Among other things, the regular use of marijuana and hashish can lead to cardiovascular problem and trigger psychosis. But the lungs appear to harm cannabis much less than commonly thought. At least not if the daily dose does not exceed a joint, as US researchers around Russell Kempker from Emory University in Atlanta have now found out in a study.

Cigarette paper causes discomfort
Scientists have been researching collected health data for adults aged between 18 and 59 for 20 years. About their results, they report in the journal: „Annals of the American Thoracic Society“. Like the Swiss Internet portal „20min.ch“ writes, showed that the lung function of regular diggers did not differ from that of abstainers. Cannabis users, however, often suffered from bronchitis-like symptoms such as cough and sore throat. According to the researchers, it is not the marijuana that is responsible but the cigarette paper. It is reported that those potheads who use vaporizers did not suffer from such complaints.

Kiffen makes you stupid
However, the results of the study should not be understood as a free ticket for constant killing. In numerous other studies, it has been scientifically proven that regular cannabis use can harm your health. Among other things, this can affect the cardiovascular system and cause psychosis. In addition, marijuana harms the sperm and makes according to research stupid. For example, last year, scientists at the University of Texas in Dallas found that regular and high marijuana use degrades gray matter. The result: The brain shrinks by smoking.

Thousands of hospital stays for cannabis
Proof of how much marijuana can harm health has also been provided by Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) at the beginning of last year. It was reported on data from the Federal Statistical Office that in 2012 a total of 10,142 hospital stays in Germany on the diagnosis „mental and behavioral disorders due to cannabinoids“ accounted for. The number of cases had almost tripled in the ten previous years. (Ad)
