Osteopathy can relieve back pain

04/02/2015

A review shows that osteopathy helps with unspecific back pain. The study looked at the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment in adults with nonspecific back pain. Success was measured in terms of pain reduction and the patient's ability to perform everyday tasks without restriction.

15 studies with 1502 participants met the inclusion criteria of the overview study. The results showed that osteopathic treatment improved both pain and functional status in nonspecific back pain. This included acute and chronic back pain and back pain in pregnant women and postnatal women. The improvements were statistically significant. None of the studies reported serious side effects in osteopathic treatment. The study can be found here. (Pm)
