If you can not relax on vacation
The last day before the long-awaited vacation is particularly stressful: the current projects must be handed over to the colleagues, many phone calls, the boss briefly present the latest figures and then it is finally done. For many, however, it is not possible to rest on vacation. One in four can not switch off in the most beautiful time of the year. This is clear from a report of the health insurance Barmer GEK.

On holiday, switching off from everyday stress is often difficult
People who are very committed and busy in their job can not switch off on vacation. Experts then speak of the so-called recreational disease. "Switching abruptly from 100 to zero on the first day of vacation can lead to problems, as well as an extreme start to a holiday marathon program of sightseeing tours, extreme physical stress and over-abundant food," reports Barmer expert Ursula Marschall to the news agency "dpa".

Especially perfectionists and workaholics are affected. "Anyone who is constantly overburdened with work, feels responsible for everything, is afraid of mistakes and can not say 'no', lives in constant stress," says Marschall. The body and the immune system then worked at full speed, so that permanently released stress hormones. Permanent tension and nervousness are the result, which could also lead to increased blood pressure. When the tension on vacation suddenly abates, the immune system also shuts down, making the person more susceptible to infections. He feels tired and tired.

Physical activities promote relaxation on vacation
In order to still find recovery on vacation, mobile phone and tablet should be turned off, advises the Barmer expert. The mails should only be checked once a day. Progressive muscle relaxation and yoga could also help in getting you on a relaxed vacation. Other activities such as beach volleyball, swimming, listening to music or reading are also suitable.

Prof. Ingo Froböse from the Center for Health of the German Sport University Cologne also points out that people who are physically active during their holiday, benefit more from the recreational effect than beach vacationers. Hiking, cycling or swimming keep you fit and get the cardiovascular system going. (Ag)
