Pimples and blackheads are usually unpleasant companions during puberty. Dermatologists, however, observe that more and more adults suffer from the so-called late acne. It mainly affects women between the ages of 25 and 45. In most cases, stress and poor diet are the cause of skin problems. In addition, the anti-baby pill can influence the appearance of the skin. When the contraceptive preparation is discontinued, there is an excess of male hormones on which facial hair follicles can react with hypersensitivity and become inflamed.
Stress favors pimples and blackheads in adults
„More and more people complain about blemished skin, "reports Thomas Dirschka from the Federal Association of German Dermatologists to the news agency „dpa“. „One in four women between the ages of 25 and 45 is struggling with late acacia, "adds Elena Helfenbein, beauty expert at the VKE Cosmetics Association, who sees stress as one of the main causes of late acne as it leads to an increase in male hormones and stimulates stress hormone production. Both result in increased sebum formation, causing the pores to become overly horny, clogged and blackheaded, causing bacteria to develop from slightly reddened skin to red, purulent pustules and nodules, but stress also has a different effect. „Stress mixes the interaction of certain neuropeptides, the cytokines, that regulate the sebaceous gland, "explains Helfenbein.
Unbalanced diet can lead to late acne in adults
Impure skin can also indicate an unhealthy intestinal flora, says Renate Donath from the Federal Association of German Beauticians in Bexbach near Frankfurt am Main to the news agency. „If the intestinal flora is unbalanced, such as taking antibiotics or unbalanced nutrition, the skin may also flower“, so the expert. The excretion is not only about the digestive system, but also about the skin. „The bacteria in the colon should be examined by the family doctor with a stool sample“, recommends Dornath. If an unbalanced diet is the cause of skin blemishes, those affected can usually achieve an improvement of the skin appearance with a change in diet. „It has been proven that a diet rich in dairy products and carbohydrates is unfavorable to acne sufferers, "says Dermatologist Dirschka, who says it should eat plenty of vegetables and fruit, while unhealthy fats and sugars can promote the development of blackheads and pimples Tightens the skin and makes it look younger, according to the German Society of Nutrition (DGE) also includes a daily intake of at least 1.5 liters of water or other unsweetened drinks such as fruit tea.
In addition, thorough cleansing has a significant impact on healthy skin. Foam, gel or milk with willow bark extract, which has a contracting effect on the pores, is particularly suitable, Donath advises. Thereafter, a tonic without alcohol should be used to clear the skin.
Dropping the pill causes pimples to sprout
Another cause of late acne, especially women who had little skin problems in their teens, is the birth control pill. As Dirschka explains, in addition to the contraceptive effect, the contraceptive also has an influence on the hair follicles in the facial skin. The pill shields the follicles from the male hormones that stimulate sebum production. However, this slightly anti-androgenic effect ends when the preparation is discontinued. „Then there is an excess of male hormones, to which the hair follicle reacts sensitively, "says Dirschka.
In addition, care products that do not match the skin type, skin blemishes trigger. „Even very rich night creams or anti-aging creams can be a cause, "warns the dermatologist. These skin care products are used by women, as the skin becomes more demanding with age. „Older skin needs lipids, whereas acne skin needs fewer lipids, "reports Helfenbein to the news agency, and a visit to a beautician can provide information about the skin type and possible problems such as acne. „It recognizes the causes and can recommend the appropriate care. "An inflammatory acne should, however, be examined by a dermatologist, because inflamed areas on the face may also be an indication of another skin disease. „Rosacea also shows itself with inflammatory sites, laymen can confound this, "says Dirschka.
Skin care and treatment depends on the severity of the acne
On the other hand, non-inflammatory acne can usually be remedied by the regular cleansing of the beautician and appropriate skin care. For mild acne, a so-called liposomal lotion is recommended, for moderate to moderate acne azelaic acid in the form of creams or gels as well as creams with the vitamin A acid derivative retinoid. As a mild antibiotic against de inflammation is often also a cream with benzoyl peroxide used.
An oral antibiotic prescribed by the dermatologist only in a severe form of acne, when pustules and nodules occur in the facial skin. „It is low-dose and reduces the degree of inflammation, "explains Dirschka.A vitamin A acid cream, which is used in parallel, also ensures a smoother skin appearance, but patients should not be pregnant, „because both antibiotics and vitamin A acid derivatives are teratogenic, "says Dirschka.During and about a month after treatment, the person affected should not get pregnant.
Home remedies for acne
In natural medicine, various herbal and other natural substances have long been used as home remedies for pimples. For external use, for example, healing clay is used, which inhibits the formation of pimples and absorbs toxins and inflammation products. The laying on of camomile tea bags on the affected skin also has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Also very effective against acne and blemished skin should be the pure juice of the aloe, when applied in the evening thinly on the skin and left there overnight. In addition, aloe can be used internally, which can additionally promote healing.
A skin tincture of daisies also has an anti-inflammatory effect. Approximately 100 daisy heads are plucked and placed in 100 milliliters of 40 percent alcohol for three to four weeks. Then the tincture is spotted on the pimples.
Herbal infusions of medicinal herbs with blood-purifying, purifying, detoxifying and metabolism-inducing effects are suitable for internal use in cases of skin blemishes. (Ag)
