Sunscreen in the test The cheapest protection is the best
Finally summer has arrived. But to enjoy the beautiful weather without risk, the appropriate protection against sunburn is important. The range of sunscreens is huge, ranging from inexpensive supermarket products to expensive luxury brands. But are they all equally good? Stiftung Warentest has examined 17 skin protection products and came to a surprising conclusion: The best product comes from the discounter.
Sun is seriously dangerous for the skin
Summer, sun and bright blue sky: During the holiday season, many people spend their time outside. However, that is not without its dangers, because those who spend too much and too much time in the sun risk sunburn and thus long-term serious skin damage such as premature wrinkling and skin cancer. It is therefore always important to have a suitable sunscreen - regardless of whether the holiday is spent on the beach, in the mountains or in the local garden. But the range of sunscreen is large and provides for some uncertainty. Which product protects the best? Should I take cream or better a spray? And how high must the sun protection factor be?
Always apply plenty of cream
The Stiftung Warentest examined 17 lotions, sprays and gels for adults (0.92 to 36 euros per 100 milliliters) with the mean sun protection factor (SPF) 15 and 20. Also known as the sun protection factor (SPF), this value indicates how many times the skin's own protection time will increase if it is creamed with a sunscreen. If the skin turns red without protection after five minutes in the sun, the factor 30 can thus extend the protection time by approximately 30-fold, to 150 minutes, so the information of the foundation. In addition to choosing the right SPF, it is important to apply plenty of cream, because it is saved here, the calculated time can not be achieved. It is also important to renew the protection several times a day.
Discounter product protects and cares
The testers came to a pleasing conclusion: 16 out of 17 products protect very well from UV rays. At least 6 of these products received a "one" in the overall grade. Only a sun fluid was classified by the experts as "deficient" because it did not reach the reported protection factor. The best result (overall score of 1.3) was achieved by the cheapest product in the test, the "Cien Sun Sonnenmilch Classic" by Lidl. According to the foundation, this provides both good protection and good skincare and is already available for € 2.29 per 250 milliliters. Just behind it follows the "Nivea Sun protection and care sun milk" ("very good", 1.4,) with the same qualities, but at a much higher price of 9 euros for 250 milliliters.
Penny and Rewe's low-priced "Today Sun Sonnenmilch" did not care as much for the skin as the products on the top two, but also made it "very good" in the overall rating (1.98 Euro, 200 milliliters). , The bottom was the "Annemarie Börlind Sonnenfluid". This did not meet the promised sun protection factor and therefore got the grade "deficient" from the examiners (5,0, 16,50 Euro, 125 milliliter).
Experts warn: protecting children properly
It is important to remember that sunscreen products with a medium sun protection factor are primarily suitable for adults with darker skin types or existing tanning, according to the Foundation's announcement. Brighter skin types and children should therefore necessarily use funds with a higher sunscreen, according to the experts. Children's skin needs e.g. because of their very high sensitivity and vulnerability a very high factor between 30 and 50+. In addition, parents should also pay attention to protection by the right clothing made of tightly woven, as dark as possible. Direct midday sun (about 11 and 15 clock) is taboo for all children, babies and toddlers in the first year of life should always be in the shade, the experts emphasize. (No)
