Useful alternative to soy foods from lupines are a suitable substitute
The number of people who eat vegetarian or vegan is rising steadily. Instead of meat or sausage, foods often come to the table, which are produced from soy or milk protein. Some people do not like it that much. Lupines are not only a great alternative for them.
Meat substitutes are trendy
More and more people reduce or stop their meat consumption. Vegetarians, vegans and flexitaries often come up with vegetarian alternatives for steaks or sausages. Meat substitutes have been booming for years. However, some components of these foods, such as milk protein or soy, are not tolerated by all humans. For them, lupins, which are among the healthy legumes, a good substitute.
Lupins contain a lot of high quality protein
Some people already refer to lupins as the new soy. Schnitzel, sausages, flour and ice are produced from the plant. Such products are very suitable for people who suffer from a food allergy to milk protein or soy.
As the Vegetarian Union Germany (VEBU) explains, lupine products are very protein-rich. "The lupine protein is particularly high quality, as it contains all the essential amino acids," write the experts on their website. In addition, lupine seeds contain little fat and no gluten, but many fiber. Since the seeds are also almost purine-free, they are also suitable for gout patients.
Mostly well tolerated
But lupine is also one of the top 14 allergens whose use has to be labeled on packaging. According to VEBU, a cross-allergy to peanuts is particularly common. According to this, peanut allergy sufferers have a 30-60% risk of lupine allergy and should refrain from it in the event.
Apart from these people, most people tolerate lupine products well. Such foods can be found, for example, in well-stocked health food stores, health food stores or even in some supermarkets. (Ad)
