Are four or five cups of coffee a day unhealthy?
Harms too much coffee of our health?
A cup of coffee in the morning to wake up, is part of the normal daily routine for most people. But how many cups does the average German person drink during the day? This question was now the opinion research institute "YouGov" after. Through a survey, which was carried out via an application (app), accurate figures could be determined, which reflect the consumption of coffee in Germany.
Coffee is a very popular beverage worldwide and is especially appreciated for its awakening effect. For many people, the cup of coffee is simply part of the morning ritual. In the survey, 42 percent of Germans said they need a cup of coffee in the morning to wake up. In this one cup a day, however, it remains only twelve percent of all participants. Most coffee drinkers consume about three to four cups of the beverage daily (31 percent). One in ten respondents said they drink more than five cups a day. Only about 20 percent of participants completely abstain from the uplifting drink. Especially younger people are increasingly turning to alternative drinks with caffeine. According to the survey, about 31 percent regularly drink coke or similar soft drinks with caffeine. So-called "energy drinks" are only used by ten percent of all respondents. Another ancient, natural drink is a widespread competition to coffee as a wake-up agent. It is the well-known tea. In the survey, 30 percent of participants said they drink tea daily.

This raises the question of why coffee makes us awake and what exactly caffeine actually does. In small doses, it mainly stimulates the psyche of humans. Our ability to concentrate is increased and any fatigue that may be present is reduced. High levels of caffeine can also affect the cardiovascular system, the researchers said. The heart then beat harder and faster, increasing our heart rate and blood pressure. So, if you consume caffeine in high amounts over a long period of time, serious cardiovascular problems can arise. Caffeine is contained in coffee beans, cocoa beans and tea leaves.
Too much coffee can reset the internal clock
A healthy adult can safely consume up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day, researchers at the European Food Safety Authority "Efsa" recently said. Even a single dose of about 200 milligrams is absolutely harmless and considered safe for our health. However, the University of Colorado recently published a study that found that a double espresso can have a major impact on our sleep patterns. Drunk three hours before the usual bedtime, the caffeine causes the internal clock to reset itself by about forty minutes.
