Prevent strokes and go for a walk
Prevent stroke
If you walk for at least two hours a week, you can prevent strokes.
(16.03.2010) At least two or better hours a week should be taken for a walk, because that's how you can u.a. successfully reduce the risk of stroke. Prof. Martin Grond of the German Stroke Society points to this connection and refers to a recent analysis of the "Women's Health Study"..
This study looked at how regular walks could reduce a potential stroke risk. It has been known for some time that a regular exercise can prevent strokes. But so far it has always been assumed that it has to be active sport in order to achieve a corresponding effect. The Women's Health Study, however, concluded that even regular walks also reduce the risk of stroke.
In the long-term study, data from around 40,000 women over 45 years of age were evaluated. The women were questioned about their way of life by means of a questionnaire. The questionnaire has been presented to the subjects every two to three years since 1992. In addition, the scientists were able to inspect the medical records of the study participants. Based on these data, it was found that those women who often walk took 30 percent fewer strokes than women who did not move much. Women who "walk" (fast walking) fell by 37 percent less of a stroke. Prof. Grond recommends that you take a walk for at least two hours a week or more. In addition, a healthy diet also has a positive effect. (Sb)
