The manufacturer of the seasoning mix with vegetables "Vegeta" has withdrawn because of suspected salmonella a certain batch, reports the news agency dpa. According to the company Podravka International Germany Konar GmbH, this concerns 250-gram packs with the best-before dates 05.03.2017, 08.03.2017 and 09.03.2017 as well as 500-gram packs with the best-before dates 08.03.2017, 09.03.2017, 10.03.2017 , 11.03.2017 and 12.03.2017. This was announced by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety on its website on Monday. The company is said to ask all customers to stop eating the products and return them to the merchant for a refund of the purchase price. This is also possible without presentation of the receipt.
Bacteria can cause disease
Salmonella are bacteria that can cause various diseases in humans, especially in the gastrointestinal area. After eating it may cause discomfort such as abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Especially in infants, people with weakened immune systems and seniors, such symptoms can occur. Due to the vomiting diarrhea, salmonella infection (salmonellosis) can lead to dehydration of the organism with additional health consequences.
Update (14.07.2015) As a result of the recall, further laboratory tests have meanwhile been carried out by independent institutes with products of the same batch. According to the manufacturer, these confirm that all products are of impeccable quality: no contamination with Salmonella was found in the batch in question.
