Is a salami unhealthy? Researchers showed that salami contains more vitamin C than an apple. The reason: With the artificial vitamin, the sausage should be preserved. But is salami healthier than an apple? Not at all, because an apple has much more to offer in the opinion of nutrition experts.
Good food should not only delight the palate. Through the diet, the body draws energy and it also meets the daily need for essential nutrients. Vegetables, whole grains, and fruits are foods that are known to contain vitamins, fiber, and minerals that the body can only produce by itself. These products play an important role in the diet and should be given to the body on a regular and balanced basis. However, not all nutrients can be supplied to the body in sufficient quantity via these foods.
Also in sausage and meat products vitamins are contained. Especially vitamin C, which is mainly used in meat processing as a preservative, so that the products are longer edible and to avoid discoloration, can be found in sausages. This is done by the addition of ascorbic acid. On average, 30 to 100 milligrams are used per 100 grams. The addition of sausage sometimes contains a higher vitamin content than fruits or vegetables. Also fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins E and A, as well as a range of water-soluble vitamins: B1, B2, B6 and the provitamin folic acid are included in sausage and meat. An apple contains an average of 12 milligrams of vitamin C per 100 grams. This does not mean, as many other media just say, that sausage could serve as a substitute for essential nutrients. Because in addition to the healthy vitamins, fruits and vegetables also contain a lot of fiber and phytochemicals, which are good for digestion and strengthen the immune system.
By consuming meat and sausage, the body also absorbs animal fats (saturated fatty acids) that can be stored in the body and, if consumed excessively, can lead to obesity. The risk of complications such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and some cancers also increases.Generellell can be said that should be paid to a balanced diet. Whether the consumption of meat and sausage products necessarily belongs to it, everyone must decide for themselves. A meatless diet certainly requires that you have to deal more with other foods.
A more plant-based diet is not only healthier, but growing fruits and vegetables also saves water and energy compared to producing meat, which is good for the climate. (Fr)
