Lack of physicians in East Frisia
Young doctors: Ostfriesland advertises scholarships
11/10/2014
For some time, experts have been struggling to find that a lack of doctors, especially in rural areas, could occur in the coming years. Ostfriesland has already responded to this and is promoting new talent with scholarships. Doctors can work where others go on holiday.
Working where other make vacation
Working in East Frisia, where others spend their holidays: According to a report by the dpa news agency, those who sign up for a three-year job in East Frisia as a country doctor may, with some luck, get a scholarship for medical studies. Accordingly, the district of Leer promotes for the fifth time up to five students. This recipe is intended to act as a remedy for the impending shortage of doctors in the future and already attract medical offspring.
Committed to three years
For the first time, a prospective doctor has signed a three-year contract specifically for Borkum. The Oldenburg student Lars Christians committed himself to the island after his studies and specialist training as a doctor available. According to the „New Osnabrück newspaper“ he said: „That suits me very well, because I know Borkum well.“ Christians is said to have grown up there.
Threatening supply gaps in rural areas
Only recently, figures were announced about the feared future shortage of doctors. For example, a representative survey of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV) and the NAV Virchow Federation revealed that one quarter of GPs and GPs in Germany will give up their practice in the next five years. The impending supply gaps, especially in rural areas, could increase dramatically by 2020. If a doctor has to take care of 2,100 or more residents, there is talk of a shortage. (Ad)
