Record at the Techniker health insurance
Techniker Krankenkasse recorded record growth for the last financial year
19/01/2012
The statutory Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) recorded a record increase in its members for the last financial year 2011. The fund now has 5.7 million insured members and 2.3 million non-contributory members. Non-contributory are, among others, non-working family members (spouse) or children. According to the Techniker Krankenkasse, around eight million people are insured in Germany.
The TK achieved a high increase by the closure of the City BKK in the middle of last year. Around 70,000 former City BKK insured went into the Techniker Kasse. Overall, the health insurance company recorded around 350,000 new customers in 2011 (net access). It can be assumed that many have switched to the TC also from cash registers, which make an additional contribution. The TK levies no additional contributions.
According to a spokesman, the budget for the current year 2012 is about 21.3 billion euros. The TK plans no introduction of additional contributions and announced that it will finance future naturopathy services and homeopathy, "if they were prescribed by a doctor". Industry experts suspect that TK will continue to grow as a result of attractive additional services. (Sb)
