Irritable Bowel Syndrome What Relieves Bloating, Diarrhea and Tummy Pains? / Health News
Irritable bowel syndrome is more of an exclusionary diagnosis in this country, although around 50 percent of patients who turn to a gastroenterologist suffer from it. Many affected people are still receiving too little help. There are many ways to alleviate suffering.
Around 30 percent of Germans suffer from the different forms of rectal syndrome. So far, medicines help little to no. In the long term, patients need to change their diet and find out which foods are responsible.

Individual Diet: In irritable bowel syndrome, giving up can help
According to experts, around twelve million Germans suffer from so-called irritable bowel syndrome. In the case of sufferers, complaints such as diarrhea, flatulence and cramping pain occur. Since foods are often the trigger, a personalized diet can help. Or funds from naturopathy.

Diarrhea and pain
If it keeps grumbling in the gut and pain sets in, it can be a sign of irritable bowel syndrome. Patients usually suffer from bloating, diarrhea - sometimes constipation - and spasmodic pain in the intestinal area. But even in the stomach and esophagus symptoms such as fullness after eating, stomach ache, heartburn and nausea and vomiting may occur. In many cases, food is the trigger for the complaints. Affected then can help an individual diet - or even simple home remedies.

There is "no cure" for irritable bowel syndrome
According to estimates of the German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases (DGVS), up to 12 million people are affected in Germany. "Since the complaints are based on different causes, there is no patent remedy for irritable bowel syndrome," said Prof. Thomas Frieling, Director of the Medical Clinic II of the Helios Hospital Krefeld, told the news agency dpa. However, diet plays a significant role.

Foods can cause discomfort
It is often the case that the intestine is sensitive to patients due to stretching by expanding gases. For example, foods such as onions or leeks can trigger the symptoms. In addition, an unfavorable composition of intestinal bacteria can reinforce this. Sufferers who are constipated should rely on a fiber-rich diet to stimulate digestion. In case of flatulence, on the other hand, it would be better to do without fiber-rich foods.

Do without certain food components
"First of all, I recommend that patients use a food diary to find out which foods are best tolerated and which are not," explains Frieling. It has been proven in some patients to dispense with certain nutritional components such as fructose in fruits or honey, lactose in dairy products and galactose in beans, lentils and soybeans. This is because they are fermented in the gut by bacteria and contribute to the formation of bloating gases. In addition, they pull water into the intestine and can cause diarrhea.

Alleviate complaints with the help of naturopathy
Since such a diet is often not easy to implement in everyday life, it sometimes offers, according to Frieling, first to reduce individual food components such as fructose or lactose. Importantly, other diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease, must be ruled out before an irritable bowel is diagnosed. In addition to the dietary change, various remedies from natural medicine against the irritable bowel syndrome offer. For example, a study by researchers at the Charité University Hospital has shown that hallowing soothes irritable bowel syndrome. Peppermint oil and psyllium also help with irritable bowel syndrome. The latter was confirmed in scientific studies, according to the Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG). (Ad)
