Retreat and Cynical Art Notes on Burnout
Retreat and cynical comments: evidence of burnout
03/03/2015
More and more people suffer from burnout. However, many people do not even notice this at first. Therefore, colleagues and supervisors should also pay attention to the behavior of employees. If they are more withdrawn and often cynical or derogatory, these can be signs of fatigue syndrome.
Those affected often notice the overload very late
When colleagues or supervisors notice that employees are no longer taking breaks and are often cynical or derogatory, they should become aware. Because possibly these are the first signs of a burn-out, as Anette Wahl-Wachendorf of the Association of Plant and Factory doctors stated in a message from the news agency dpa. Often sufferers even notice the overload only when they are already very exhausted and their services are worse.
Colleagues and supervisors are in demand
Before that, especially the environment is in demand. For example, colleagues can take the employee aside and say: „I notice that you do not even come with us anymore. Do not you think that you are asking too much??“ This, in the best case, causes the person concerned to reflect on his behavior. Above all, however, the supervisor is in demand, because one of his tasks is to correct critical working behavior. When a leader thinks that colleagues work much longer than others, or send e-mails late at night, they should look for the best conversation.
Employees are treated to rest breaks
In case of doubt, supervisors with the employees concerned have to go through the work week and analyze together why they work so long. The person concerned may simply have significantly more tasks than less resilient employees. Supervisors should also be interested in having a conversation with them, as they often have a very long burn-out time. The reality, however, often looks different. Last autumn, the CEOs of Barmer GEK, the Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) and the Kaufmännische Krankenkasse (KKH) accused employers of giving their employees too little rest and thus forcing the development of mental health problems.
Overwork and stress at work
There is currently no binding definition of burnout syndrome. As a rule, the fatigue syndrome is associated with overwork and stress at work. Some health professionals doubt that burnout is a disease in its own right and assume that those affected are basically suffering from depression. The symptoms are similar in any case. According to experts, a strong desire for withdrawal, depression, difficulty concentrating, chronic fatigue and an emotional distance from work were among the first signs of burnout syndrome. In addition, some patients describe that they have a strong inner restlessness, seizures of heartbeats with chasing pulse or have problems with digestion. (Ad)
