Spices manufacturer Hartkorn calls due to Salmonella curry spices from the trade

24/08/2012

Due to a salmonella fund, the manufacturer Hartkorn recalls its curry mix from the retail trade. The rod-shaped bacteria were detected in two batches. The curry spices are sold throughout Germany, which is why the recall applies nationwide. Consumers are called upon to consume the mixtures in any case, but return for reimbursement of the purchase price to the dealer.

Spotted salmonella in two curry batches
A recall campaign has started the spice manufacturer Hartkorn for two batches of his curry mixes. In two batches of the production laboratory controls Salmonella were discovered. „In one sample, Salmonella was detected in a routine examination“, as the managing director of the Koblenzer spice manufacturer, Andreas Hartkorn, announced on Friday. The curry packs have already been delivered nationwide. The manager can not say yet how the bacteria got into the curry. It is possible, however, that the germs were already in the raw material. Instead of eating the spice, customers should return the mixes to the store. There the sales price will be refunded.

The curry packs, according to the manufacturer, are spices in a can with the lot number L20915F2 (EAN code: 40526065) and a package in bags with the number L20909F2 (EAN code: 4052600051032). Consumers should not use the products and bring them to the supermarket.

Spices are often added only at the end of cooking
According to the State Investigation Office, the warning should be taken seriously. Because „the problem is that spices are often added at the end of the cooking process and are then no longer sufficiently heated“, as a spokeswoman stressed. „The bacteria are killed only from a temperature of 70 degrees Celsius.“

Salmonella pathogens cause diarrhea in healthy people, which usually heal spontaneously even without the administration of antibiotics. However, infants, children, the elderly and immunocompromised persons are at risk. Here, serious illnesses can be caused. Salmonella-induced salmonellosis causes patients to suffer from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Loss of fluid can cause internal dehydration. (Sb)
